BURLINGTON — Ericka Redic, Republican candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, supports the Governor’s veto of bill S.30 because all Vermonters have the right and deserve the ability to protect themselves and their families.

Redic says “Balint seems to think the only people who purchase guns are criminals or domestic abusers. She wants to take away a woman’s ability to protect herself and her family from domestic violence. At a time when Senator Balint is calling to defund the police, and prosecutors and judges are refusing to keep violent criminals behind bars, handcuffing a woman’s right to protect herself is unconscionable.”

“The government’s first responsibility is the safety of its citizens. We want to provide a mechanism for rehabilitation of people who commit crimes, but not at the expense of safety and justice for the victims.”

  1. It is narrow minded people like Becca Balint, blind in their ideology that have no idea what is even going on in this country. She claims she is concerned for the safety of victims but doesn’t even realize it is the policies she pushes that creates the victims she says she is concerned for. How many women were killed or seriously injured at the hands of their abusers, some of which had restraining orders placed on them which did not stop them, could not purchase a firearm for protection because of a waiting period. This has happened in many of the states that have such laws. I know Ms. Balint lives in her happy little progressive world but she should get her head out of her butt, stop listing to NPR and VPR, do a little research and find out why gun sales in this country have skyrocketed. She will be shocked to find that 50% of new gun owners are women. So just who are the new gun owners buying guns.

    • And furthermore Ms. Balint, According to the CDC almost every major study has found that Americans have used their firearms between 500,000 and 3 million times each year. Most of these incidents are never reported to the police or media.

“When any nation mistrusts it’s citizens with guns it is sending a clear message. It no longer trusts it’s citizens because such a government has evil plans”. George Washington
