Secretary Condos announces 2022 general election audit

Montpelier, VT – Today Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos announced the date and towns included in the post-election audit of 2022 Vermont General Election results, which will occur on Tuesday, December 6 at the Pavilion Auditorium in Montpelier, starting at 9am.

“The General Election audit is an important prevision of Vermont election law, put in place to verify the accuracy of election results and provide Vermonters with further confidence in the integrity of the election process,” said Secretary Condos. “Post-election audits are widely considered a best practice. Since we began conducting them in Vermont, we have never found any significant deviations between audit results and official election results, providing further confirmation of the accuracy of the Vermont elections process.”

Seven randomly selected towns will be included in this year’s audit: Burlington, Dover, Fair Haven, Mt. Tabor, Newport City, Richford, and Waitsfield.

Every ballot cast in the selected precincts will be audited, and every race on those ballots will be included in the audit. Following the November 8 election all cast ballots were sealed in ballot bags and held securely by the Town Clerks in their vaults.

Numerous recounts conducted after the 2022 General Election have also confirmed the accuracy and integrity of election results.

The audit is open to members of the public and the press.

  1. Goodbye Mr. Condos. Your legacy is cemented in the annuals. One day, hopefully, also on a number of affidavits, warrants, and dockets.
