Opinion: Senator Baruth deems parents hostile without a day in court

This commentary is by Carol Kauffman, of Addison. She is president of the Vermont Family Alliance.

Montpelier’s new Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Baruth, D/P-Chittenden, has now segued from minor abortion rights to “trans youth who are trying to figure out their identities” rights, as can be heard on the Morning Drive radio interview.

It is not surprising that Senator Baruth and other proponents of the passage of Article 22 refused to engage in this conversation prior to the Nov. 8 vote, leaving parents unaware of the ramifications for their children.

Senator Baruth was emphatic when asked about family involvement: “If they’re a minor, they’re gonna need their family involved. So, this discussion we’ve had with abortion for years. The place where it gets sticky is where someone’s family is hostile to, in one case the idea of aborting a child. The other case, affirming gender identity and that’s where this discussion generates.”

Government should have no authority to deem parents hostile and strip them of their rights and responsibilities regarding their children’s reproductive experiences outside of a court. Children and their families are being permanently harmed by the current gender ideology activism.

On Oct. 20, 2022, the NHS of England published a study: “Public consultation. Interim service specification for specialist gender dysphoria services for children and young people.” This study came after “The Tavistock gender clinic is facing mass legal action from youngsters who claim they were rushed into taking life-altering puberty blockers. Lawyers expect about 1,000 families to join a medical negligence lawsuit alleging vulnerable children have been misdiagnosed and placed on a damaging medical pathway.”

The NHS of England’s findings did not include “hostile parents.”

It was established in response to a complex and diverse range of issues including:

1. A significant and sharp rise in referrals – In 2021/22 there were over 5,000 referrals into the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) run by the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. This compares to just under 250 referrals in 2011/12.

2. Marked changes in the types of patients being referred which are not well understood – There has been a dramatic change in the case mix of referrals from predominantly birth-registered males to predominantly birth-registered females presenting with gender incongruence in early teen years. Additionally, a significant number of children are also presenting with neurodiversity and other mental health needs and risky behaviors which require careful consideration and need to be better understood.

3. Scarce and inconclusive evidence to support clinical decision-making. This has led to a lack of clinical consensus on what the best model of care for children and young people experiencing gender incongruence and dysphoria should be; and a lack of evidence to support families in making informed decisions about interventions that may have life-long consequences.

In America, Chloe Cole is planning to sue Kaiser, one of the nation’s largest medical groups. Chloe alleges that Kaiser Permanente coerced her into transgender medical treatment, describing her experience as grossly negligent and resulting in permanent mutilation and damage to her body: “I made an adult decision as a child.”

Laws that kick parents out of the village regarding their child’s reproductive experiences and choices will have negative consequences, guaranteed.

  1. This is a repeat of a previous post. But it seems to apply to virtually every circumstance confronting us today.

In 1966, Harry Harrison wrote a novel, ‘Make Room! Make Room!’ In 1973 the Stanley Greenberg screenplay, ‘Soylent Green’, was released. The futuristic dystopian plot takes place, curiously, in 2022, a time in which “The poor live in squalor, haul water from communal spigots, and eat highly processed wafers: Soylent Red, Soylent Yellow, and the latest product, far more flavorful and nutritious, Soylent Green.”

I’m sure you all get the gist of my analogy: Soylent Green – The Green New Deal.

But the projection is nonetheless intriguing, if not foreboding. We live and reproduce at the behest of the ‘Administrative State’, no longer controlling our own lives or the lives of our children, ceding all authority to “a compelling State interest’.

Those who disagree are enemies of the State, domestic terrorists, and conspiracy theorists. Their mere existence is a threat to civilization, whatever the Administrative State deems that to be. We exist to feed the monster, be it the public education monopoly, the healthcare establishment and ‘big pharma’, the social services cartels, government workers, and the so-called ‘elected’ officials managing our affairs.

Take heed: The ending to this epic tale is, as yet, unwritten.

  2. This Baruth person has a whole lot of issues- it’s clear to see.

He’s forgetting here that the largest job we all have here is to reproduce- to keep the human race going.
Parents have the right to create their own children in their own image.. Has Baruth read anything at all about Natural Rights?

No the state does not own our children.
No the state does not have the right to seize our children (in schools, at the doctors office etc) and then turn them into what the state wants them to be- thus creating conflict in a family and confusion/conflict in the minds of children.

So in parenting our own children – to have the values system of the parents -(so that we are a nation of individuals and not flocks of sheep) things are getting sticky YES because of people like this man that are trying to brainwash our kids into thinking it’s right and okay to identify as something other than what the equipment between your legs says.
    No this is not okay.
No it’s not right or okay to murder your own child.
No it’s not okay for the state (meaning ‘The Schools’) to then involve themselves into these highly personal affairs of *THE FAMILY UNIT*.
THIS right here is exactly why over here in NH we have *A Constitutional Right To Privacy.*
It’s thanks to people just like this man that it was clear to us that we needed to have this- and to add this to our Constitution so that there could be no mistakes at all as to it’s importance.

Vermonters here, you have been too nice, too kind and too generous and you are now being trampled by crazy people and then completely herded along their Leftward Path To Destruction.
How this man got this far up the line is both a mystery and a failure- you can see!

    Further.
    Let me solve this.
Parents are responsible for their own kids until they are 18 years old.. I’d like to call this “settled law” since this has been the case for so long now.
These people on the Left are trying to erode away parental rights by raising up the “rights” and voices of actual children.. (we know the brain is not fully developed until age 25- remember?)
When they do this, not only are they destroying a family unit, they are also attempting to strip the parents of their legal rights to parent their own kids in their image.

If your child wants to change their identity and get a sex change operation then have at it *when you are 18 years old*.
Abort all the babies you want- when you are 18 years old- when you own your own life and the consequences of your own actions.

The government has no rights to be involved in all of this and further, do not forget: the schools are now simply nothing but pimps for Big Pharma because we all can see that Trannies are HUGE Money Makers for Big Pharma.. and who is Big Pharma? try China- and is China our friend? NO, it’s a Communist Nation.
The Schools are also nothing but pimps for Planned Parenthood and the Abortion Industry.
    FOLLOW THE MONEY
Now does it all make sense?

Rise Up People and take back your rights from these people- and your state!
Now that they have a super majority, you are going to have to truly play hardball -and you better get at it because the future of Vermont is not looking good at all for people that are not new, wealthy NY arrivals.

    • Parents ought not– and I hope do not– have a right to create children in their own image. Some of the most messed-up people in the world were children whose parents used them to fulfill their own fantasies. Most of them just escape with substance abuse (slow suicide) or fast suicide (e.g., Donald’s brother Fred Trump). Others work off their issues by misusing their power and prestige (e.g., Charles Koch, whose issues with government are a displacement reaction based on his issues with his abusive but well-intentioned father). Read For Your Own Good to find out just how bad an entire nation of such parents (in Germany) can be.

      • And because some parents, perhaps your parents, or their surrogates, treated their children badly, means all parents will abuse their children? Who then might we choose to raise our children? You, perhaps, because of your extensive experience? Or someone, or some village, of whom you approve?

“Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’
        Luke 23:28-29

        Article 22 – Proposition 5: Behold, a Pale Horse.

        • The information about what constitutes decent parenting has been available for years. I recommend you start by looking at the Warner-Smith 30-year study of children in poverty on the island of Maui. She found out that one-third of those children escaped it– went on to lead reasonably happy and responsible adult lives.

The other two-thirds of the children failed to escape because they did not develop sufficient strength in one or more of the traits of resiliency that all children need to do well in later life. Twenty-eight years of working with families showed me that there are parents who will for their own definition of survival stultify their children– as Warner-Smith showed.

So, do some research on resiliency to see how parents can be helped, rather than either ignored or compelled.

  3. Someone once described Senator Baruth as Weird Energy Phil. I’m beginning to see that the name fits.
I have a feeling that Phil is going to make lots of enemies in the next two years. He’s riding high on ego right now. If he pisses off enough people, hopefully he will get his walking papers in two years. The more he exposes himself, the harder is will be for him to operate. The rest of the country is seeing first hand who these progressives are. Time is on our side, they will produce enough of their own political rope to hang themselves, just like old Joe Biden.

    • Dano I can tell ya, Vermont IS being closely watched- by us in NH. So much so that are attempting a rescue operation so that the whole of New England is not sucked down the drain along with these failed deep blue states that are being turned into tax funded, free range psych wards by people like this Baruth man.

    • Dream on Dano. The voters of Chittenden County had the opportunity 3 months ago to send this english professor from New York packing. You can’t get rid of vermin like this when the majority of voters are self-loathing liberal idiots.

      • Well then, I guess we should all quit and move out. If so, why do you continue to comment here? If it’s all for naught, let’s just fold up our tents and move on.

We could find out why out of state students are allowed to vote here, right?
Vermont is awash in out of state progressive money, right?
Our institutions have been infiltrated by out of state progressives, right?
We have per capita the most non-profit social justice organizations of any state, right?
Our legislature is full of out of state progressive implants, right?
The Vermont corporate media is a wing of the Dem/prog Utopian party, right?
And, we have one of the laziest and most uninformed voting public anywhere, right?

So my question is answered, we are defeated politically so let’s surrender!

        • I’m not ready to capitulate. I am just placing the blame where it belongs…with the ignorant majority of Vermont voters.

          • I believe most thinking people realize that most voters are woefully misinformed, lazy and those here to suck off the government benefits will not vote against their livelihood. Chittenden county college students weigh into the reason for progressive votes and Baruth is a UVM professor. Please don’t capitulate, you post some great comments. Progressives will eventually turn the voters against themselves when they choke their own voters. It will happen, it’s just a matter of when!

  4. Adolph Baruth, Vermont’s very own little Hitler…………. watch and learn !!

    Wake up, people……………….

    • yup CHenry, the little fag is a prime example of the bully of the gender confused who went from we just want to be able to be freaks to we have to be able to make more freaks… phillis shouldn’t be allowed to make any laws in VT or anywhere. flatlanders ruin everything.

  5. Mr. Baruth ! You are a complete jerk. You say: “The place where it gets sticky is where someone’s family is hostile to, in one case the idea of aborting a child. The other case, affirming gender identity and that’s where this discussion generates.”

What a bunch of logorrhea. “Aborting a child” is one of the most hostile things a human can do to another. It almost always results in the termination of a life. For those that survive a botched abortion, 210 of your party members in Congress just voted against requiring the medical community to do everything they can to keep any live born child alive. Really ? Why ? So ex VA governor Nordstrom was right after all ?

You are making a wonderful success of making enemies. I hope you are enjoying yourself leading this new GOD legislature full of folks who think they know better than me and the thousands of Vermonters that you seem intent on screwing.

    • Perhaps, consider that the current legislative leaders have no belief in a higher power.
Perhaps, baruth, krowinski and their minions believe that they themselves are the highest power on our planet- and with the hubris they have attained by their ‘super-majority’ legislature- they will follow their own arrogance and lust for power- fully ignorant of the damage caused by their hubris.
Vermont is indeed set up for an economic and social disaster- one directly caused by this legislature. There will be increased class warfare and discrimination of any and all that cannot
accept the diktats sent from the house and senate chambers. Consider the current one sided posturing between the legislative ‘leaders’ and governor. phil scott has no veto power and baruth apparently intends to ram any legislative desire down scott’s throat- as well as every resident of Vermont. The current fascination with LBGT ‘rights’ by baruth is morally corrupt and wrong- contradictory to almost every organized religion on the planet today. Christianity, Judaism and Muslim faiths all condemn such. Satanism? You decide if you even want to find out. baruth’s fear of firearms- or his fear of us possessing firearms and legislation to restrict such follows along with historic socialist/communist government policies. Every current and former Socialist/Communist government has enacted firearms regulation/ confiscation as a first step to totalitarian control. Legislation proposed this biennium appears to be pointed at establishing a socialist totalitarian state here in the Green Mountains.
