Gun sales surged to a record high in 2021, fueled by first-time gun owners, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).
At least 5.4 million people purchased firearms for the first time in 2021, with roughly 30% of all gun purchases going to first-time buyers, according to the NSSF. The figure is a 10% decrease from 2020, when approximately 8.4 million people purchased firearms for the first time.
“We welcome these new gun owners to the greater community of law-abiding Americans who choose to own a firearm for lawful purposes, including self-defense, recreational target shooting and hunting,” Joe Bartozzi, NSSF president and chief executive, said.
“The surveys revealed that new gun owners are continuing to embrace their Second Amendment rights and nearly half of them are seeking out professional training,” Bartozzi said. “These trends show that not only is there still a strong interest in gun ownership but also that these new gun owners are interested in learning more about the safe and responsible handling, use and storage of firearms.”
Meanwhile, the survey found a 58% increase in black Americans purchasing guns in 2020 compared to 2019 and a 49% increase in gun purchases by the Hispanic community.

I love and appreciate all of the politicians that push for Gun Control. The more they push the more the citizens buy, making it more and more difficult to take away our 2nd Amendment rights. They are truly the best pitch men for guns. Now don’t forget the ammo.

I know quite a few far Left women that carry.. oddly their political views go out the window when it comes to their own personal safety.
This article is probably causing Rep. Martin (bow tie) LaLond and Senator Phil (weird energy) Buruth both from the Burlington area (but neither from Vermont) to have severe diaria. That’s over 13.8 million new firearms owners in two years. Defunding the police by progressives like these two is not really working out for their agenda. The mere fact is that criminals could care less about laws these two promote and get passed. It must be that they have no idea what’s going on in their own back yard, Burlington. Drugs sold by felons with illegal guns roam the streets unabated by gun and drug laws. I guess this is for their low information voters to show they are doing something for safety when in fact it does the opposite. The only way to stop and bad man with a gun is a good man with a gun. If laws worked as they were intended, we would have no problems at all. Taking firearms out of the hands of good people does nothing at all.

The voters of Vermont need to remember that Martin LaLonde and Phil Baruth aren’t the only progressive / liberal / democrat representatives who wet their pants at the sight of anything that look like a gun, from kid’s chewed pop-tart to a pointed finger. If you have a gun, keep it clean and learn how to use it safely. If you don’t have a gun, buy one; then keep it clean and learn how to use it safely.
And be sure to investigate the voting history of anyone you vote for. If they’re frightened of the 2nd Amendment in their voting, well, dump them, get a new one, and learn how to interact with them. 2022 is a good time to start…

Actually, no I don’t. But lots of new readers here. These two mentioned aren’t going to stop. They must be stopped by the voters and the only way that will happen is to expose them and what they do. They took an oath to defend and not harm our VT constitution and that was their first lie. These are carpetbaggers here to control the real Vermonters. They need to be voted out or a majority of republicans voted in to stop their theft of our freedoms and customs.
Of course record gun sales are occurring as is Americans and all peoples natural and Americans birthright.
The Leftist’s of all parties are what is fueling this desire to self protection and thus the best tool for the job a firearm, with the planed destabilization of American society and government.
The left’s sales tactics the pandemic,riots,defuning of the police,ignoring the Constitution in a tyrannical spirt that the Left loves to push all of which was guaranteed to cause thinking or fearful Americans to purchase firearms like never before.
If one can read and comprehend plain English,reading the text of the 2 nd. amendment will speak to the right and that each and every gun control law is un Constitutional. Yet the Left thinks that further tyrannical laws will further their long held goal of zero firearms in non governmental hands, the complete elimination,civililan disarmament in the United States.
The soon to be retired justice Breyer has himself called for the repeal/elimination of the 2 nd. amendment, the left has to in order to accomplish their goals,eliminate the 2 nd. amendment or everything they have schemed for at least the past 100 years is all for nought.
So Leftist’s of either party has to jump on the bandwagon of civilian disarmament,Constitution and We The People be damned.
It is irrational to shift the balance of force in favor of the criminal element. That is what those promoting laws against gun possession are attempting. the criminals don’t give a damn what the laws say. Even though those laws make their job safer, why take a chance? The Progressives put the arrested and charged criminals back on the streets. Why? They take actions that will motivate gun possession and carrying – in contradiction to their expressed goals. They hamper policing, defund and demonize police – necessitating gun possession for personal protection – hardly working toward their goals. They open borders to millions, some of them criminal, some unquestionably violent, some members of ruthless gangs. They let convicted, sentenced criminals out of jail. Not only is all of this insane, but it obviously contradicts their endeavor to reduce gun ownership in part because these criminals will inevitably arm themselves and because the law abiding citizens will consequently deem it necessary to do likewise. We’re seeing the result.
