Nancy Pelosi steps down as House GOP announces investigation into Joe Biden

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she would not seek reelection as Democratic House leader Thursday, but will remain as a member of Congress.

Pelosi, 82, who held the position since 2019 and previously stated would only hold the position for four years, opted to step down, but will remain as a backbencher to guide the next Democratic leader, according to her Thursday speech. On Sunday, a spokesperson for Pelosi denied claims that she was stepping down, as she was still considering her options, but indicated that attack on her husband would be a deciding factor, despite Democrats, including President Joe Biden, asking her to consider running.

“[Nancy Pelosi] has been overwhelmed by calls from colleagues, friends and supporters. This evening, the Speaker monitored returns in the three remaining critical states. The Speaker plans to address her future plans tomorrow to her colleagues. Stay tuned,” longtime spokesperson Drew Hammill announced on Twitter Wednesday night.

Pelosi took two speeches home Wednesday night, presumably mulling over which speech she would read Thursday, according to Politico. Democratic House members were split Wednesday night with many referring to her 2018 promise to only do four years in the position, while others said they believed she would run again.

“Anybody who says they know is lying to you,” a member of Pelosi’s leadership team told Politico Wednesday night.

Pelosi opted to wait until the final results for the midterm elections were decided.

“People are campaigning and that’s a beautiful thing,” she said. “And I’m not asking anyone for anything. My members are asking me to consider doing that. But, again, let’s just get through the election.”

On Wednesday, Republicans gained control of the United State House of Representatives, reaching a narrow majority in the tightly-contested midterm elections.

Republicans announce investigation into Joe Biden, allege he was directly ‘involved’ with son Hunter’s dealings

House Republicans announced they were launching an investigation into President Joe Biden at a press conference Thursday, alleging that the elder Biden was “involved” in his son Hunter’s overseas business dealings.

Republican Reps. James Comer of Kentucky and Jim Jordan of Ohio, citing unnamed whistleblowers, alleged that Joe Biden was the “chairman of the board” of the Biden family empire and oversaw Hunter’s business activity, claiming to find evidence of conspiracy to defraud the United States and money laundering. Hunter Biden currently holds a minority stake in a Chinese private equity firm responsible for investing in a previously sanctioned technology company that committed human rights violations against Uyghurs, and the new accusations point to involvement in the energy industry.

“This is an investigation of Joe Biden,” Comer said. “I think we’ve laid out the evidence as to why we feel it’s important, and we’re going to move forward with that.”

The lawmakers allege that Hunter Biden and Joe Biden participated in “waste, fraud, and abuse” relating to business dealings and plan to release a report Thursday to outline their claims.

“We find evidence that Hunter Biden and Joe Biden were involved in a scheme to try to get China to buy liquified natural gas. People are in outrage over China buying farmland in the Dakotas. What about China starting to buy into our American energy industry?” Comer added.

Comer was referring to documents found on Hunter Biden’s laptop that showed he was engaged in business talks with Chinese companies to sell American natural gas.

“Was Joe Biden directly involved with Hunter Biden’s business deals and is he compromised? That’s our investigation,” Comer said. The Representatives hope to find “why [Biden] lied to the American people about his knowledge and participation in his family’s international business schemes”

Hunter has been under federal investigation since 2018, after he allegedly failed to pay taxes and lied on a firearm application. U.S. Attorney David Weiss has conducted the investigation and would be the person who levies the charges.

In September, over 30 Senate Republicans called for U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to grant special counsel protections and authorities to Weiss as he continued to investigate Hunter Biden. The request stemmed from a letter that claims Hunter Biden has a growing amount of evidence against him relating to federal crimes, including, but not limited to, tax fraud, money laundering and foreign-lobbying violations.

The request for counsel follows a September claim by one of Hunter Biden’s former business associates, Tony Bobulinski, that former FBI agent Timothy Thibault worked to conceal relevant information about the Biden family, particularly his relationship with the Bidens. Legislators alleged that Thibault attempted to halt the FBI’s investigation into Hunter Biden.

In October, Republican Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley called on law enforcement to release records detailing “potential criminal conduct” committed by Biden’s sons after leaked emails pointed to a Biden owned real estate company receiving a $40 million investment from a Russian oligarch.

  1. One might question the wisdom of what is being made a priority by the new Republican majority in the House and how successful it might be.

While the desire for some kind of payback for unfair treatment is understandable, inflation and the cost of living are highest concern for most Americans and this is where the focus should be. There is also the danger, that like the Dunham invesitagtion into the 2016 election, President Biden’s business ties to his wayward son may end up to be far less than is being hoped for.

    • I think the R’s can chew bubble gum and walk at the same time unlike the D’rats who are dumbed down with the low IQ con blacks and America haters who’ve been in committee for the last 6 yrs to Destroy Pres Trump and his chance to come back and drain the swamp. The biggest ticket to stop inflation is to cut all funding going abroad or not for Americans, secure the border and stop all payments to illegals. Once that’s under control open up drilling and new refinery capacity to get energy independence back. With his kids shady dealings with China, Ukraine, Russia it’s very possible law were broken by slo joe to help him along and pad robenettes portfolio.

  2. Will she hand over the gavel to her husband for his freakish sex fetishes? I for one would just as soon have her disappear from the media who fawns on her every word. 23 years has seemed like a eternity of having that witch insulting Americans and America..Don’t go away mad just go away..

    • Reminds me of the song from The Wizard of Oz, When the wicked witch of the west was burned. Ding Dong, the witch is dead. The wicked witch, the wicked witch. Hi ho the dairy’o, the wicked witch is dead. And I mean politically dead, no more nasty Nancy! Ding Dong!

      • Yes Dano, I’d love to see her ankles and feet sticking out from the house that lands on her.. would be all I need for Christmas.

  3. Kinda gettin’ tired of hearing the mainstream media constantly repeating the phrase “election deniers” when they were responsible for the fake election of 2020 by conspiring to deny reporting accurately and completely on the existence of a ton of incriminating evidence regarding and contained within the Hunter Biden Laptop. Now, we will finally talk about who the real election deniers are.
