McClaughry: Granholm’s Clean Energy Corps

By John McClaughry

Over the years our federal government has created all sorts of citizen corps. During World War I it was the American Protective League, that my grandfather belonged to. During the Depression, it was the Civilian Conservation Corps, pioneered by an old Vermonter named Perry Merrill. President Kennedy’s contribution was the Peace Corps, sending idealistic Americans off to distant climes to help life up the ignorant natives. President Johnson hatched the Job Corps, camps to train idle youths in needed job skills. The Northlands Job Corps Center in Vergennes survives to this day.

U.S. Department of Energy

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm

The Biden entry is the Clean Energy Corps, announced by U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm earlier this month. Unlike most of the forerunners, the Clean Energy Corps will not be composed of unemployed laborers and untrained youths. She calls for a thousand highly skilled scientists, analysts, cybersecurity professionals and engineers to somehow promote clean energy, implement solutions to climate change, create good paying jobs, and spur economic growth. “Our Country needs you,” she exults, your planet needs you.”

The secretary wasn’t at all clear how this army of clean energy corpspeople would be deployed. At one great campus somewhere, like the Manhattan Project? Or sent out to attach themselves to Energy Department offices and funded projects? These experts need to be paid a lot more than unemployed youths.

    • Jay,

Biden will soon issue an executive order that will require no more purchases of fossil fuel airplanes by airlines

Executive planes and private planes will remain exempt, as otherwise they would have to fly commercial to various conferences throughout the world.

  1. “highly skilled scientists, analysts, cybersecurity professionals and engineers” – How about Highly Skilled (non Marxist) Economists. We do not face an imminent scarcity of economically competitive hydrocarbon fuels. The current Renewable Energy pinwheels and panels will never be economically competitive. Research is progressing in clean hydrogen fusion, already generating more energy than it uses. That’s a practical direction for government investment.

  2. Beyond the Energy Corps, have any of you seen Secretary Granholm on television in the past months attempting to address this country’s oil and gasoline price crisis, this country’s petroleum reserves or questions about the Biden administration’s energy policies?

If you missed it, you missed Ms. Granholm laughing and giggling like a 13 year old when asked basic questions about energy policies……Questions she was unable to answer…….Ms. Granholm was as bad as Vice President Kamala Harris in addressing critical issues facing this country…..This is a living and breathing example of the Peter Principle…….This is the Biden administration…….This is scary!

    • Peter,

A search of bios on the internet shows, Granholm has ZERO, hands-on experience in the US energy sector

No wonder she is giggling, because to HER, any questions about energy are funny!
The giggling is a defense mechanism

Kamala Harras is also giggling/cackling, in fact, because she has ZERO experience with national borders, and how border laws should be enforced, to avoid the insanely embarrassing, third-world situation, on our southern border

Poland and Hungary are much more capable at defending THEIR borders from just-walk-in, unsuitable people.

  3. We also need people to train the ‘wokes’ on how to survive when the clean energy stampede leaves them without power, heat, food and transpiration.
