Private school tuition House vote postponed until Wednesday, sources say

Sources at the Vermont State House say the vote on H.483, restricting public school tuition to private schools, has been delayed until at least next Wednesday. It is uncertain why voting on this bill, pushed strongly by a coalition of public school education groups, has been postponed after being placed on the House agenda this week.

Required gun storage in House bill appears at odds with 2008 Supreme Court decision

The Vermont House on Wednesday preliminarily approved H.230, a bill that would place restrictions on gun storage and require a 72-hour waiting period on gun purchases. The House will vote for final approval on Thursday.

Mid-Vermont Christian School banned from tournament play over transgender decision, promises appeal

The private Christian school banned Monday from future Vermont high school athletic tournaments and other Vermont Principals Association activities said it is “disappointed” with the decision and promised to appeal.

National, state GOP file second noncitizen voting suit against Winooski

The Republican National Committee (RNC), Vermont Republican Party (VTGOP), and two concerned Vermont residents filed suit in Vermont Superior Court against the City of Winooski for allowing noncitizens to vote in its school board and budget elections.

A gun control bill purportedly for “implementing mechanisms to reduce suicide” was approved 7-3 last week by the House Human Services Committee and is up for House Judiciary Committee review Wednesday at 9 a.m.

New bill would repeal Vermont’s criminal prostitution laws

H.372 follows the model of the Montpelier city repeal of its prostitution ordinance. It does not specifically legalize prostitution or establish a legal framework for the prostitution trade. But it does repeal existing laws criminalizing voluntary sex work.

‘Affordable Heating Act’ passes 5-0 in Senate committee

Senate Bill 5, the Affordable Heating Act, was approved unanimously by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Friday morning. The bill is a reprise of the clean heat standard the Legislature passed last year only to be vetoed by Gov. Phil Scott.
