Liz Cheney, after losing by 37 points, says she is ‘thinking about’ a presidential run

By Harold Hutchison

Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming said she was considering a run for president in 2024 during a Wednesday morning appearance on “The Today Show.”

“I’m not going to make any announcements here this morning, but — but it is something that I — I’m thinking about and I’ll make a decision in the coming months,” Cheney said when asked if she would run for president by host Savannah Guthrie.

Cheney was defeated by Harriet Hageman, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, by 37 points Tuesday night.

“We have a tremendous amount of work left to do on the January 6th committee,” Cheney said. “And also, though, I’m going to be making sure that people all around this country understand the stakes of what we’re facing, understand the extent to which we’ve now got one major political party, my party, which has really become a cult of personality.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appointed Cheney and Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, both outspoken Trump critics, to the Jan. 6 committee after she rejectedRepublican Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana. Most House Republicans boycotted the committee in response to Pelosi blocking Jordan and Banks.

Cheney fell out of favor with Republican House leadership amid the aftermath of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, and was removed from her position as chairwoman of the House Republican Conference in 2021.

“I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office,” Cheney vowed.

Trump and Cheney did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

  1. Liz Cheney has one of the most conservative voting records in Congress. She has in fact has a higher percentage of voting in line with legislation proposed by President Trump than some of his most stalwart allies like Jim Jordan. She held a leadership position in the Republican caucus in the House and quite possibly could have become at some point the Republican Speaker of the House.

The one place she differed is that she put her principles and belief in our Constitution ahead of one individual’s attempt to hold onto power at all costs. She could have been easily re-elected if she had kept quiet but chose instead to sacrifice her career to speak out against an abuse of our highest office.

The book “Profiies in Courage”, was a 1956 Pulitzer prize winner. It described the bravery and integrity of eight U.S. Senators who defied their party and the opinon of their constituents to do what they felt was right and suffered as a result. Liz Cheney is another “profile in courage”.

    • If there was a recognition for “profiles in pandering” I would agree. What Trump did to challenge the outcome of the election was no different that what Hillary did for 4 years after her defeat and what Stacey Abrams did after losing her race for Georgia Governor. There is credible data showing that widespread fraud occurred in the 2020 Presidential election, maybe not enough to have made the difference, but was Trump supposed to have laid down and taken it with so much at stake? Trump has hopefully ended the reign of some of the most dangerous legacy families in American politics…Clintons, Bushes and Cheneys…and deserves credit for that. He did it with the concerted opposition and meddling by the democrat-friendly major media and the thoroughly corrupt FBI and IRS.

      • Rich,

You wrote: “What Trump did to challege the outcome of the election was no different that what Hillary did for four years after her defeat”.

Actually Hillary in her concession speech early morning hours after the election said,
to her supporters, “We must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.”
She went on, “Our constitutional democracy enshirnes the peaceful transfer of power and we don’t just respect that, we cherish it.

One does not have to be a supporter of Hillary Clinton to recognize that how she acted after the election was far different than how Donald Trump handled his defeat.

  2. This “Miss Piggy” lookalike is a spawn of a DC swampcreature and has become one herself. She says she is dedicating her future efforts to assure that Trump will never again serve. That’s funny, because the original reason Trump ran for and won the Presidency (at least once) was to assure that the US is no longer run by DC swampcreatures. Who will win this epic battle?

  3. Well she’s got the money! became very wealthy in 6 yrs (I think) in office…..
and she is despicable, like the rest of Washington. Hence the IRS is coming for all…..because attention is being given to (rightfully so) the fact that Politics these days (for years..) has become quite profitable….

  4. I didn’t have to watch the video; she looks just like her father with long hair and they both talk out of one side of their mouths. She’s done, the democrats hated her father and called him a war criminal, remember? The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  5. All the Dems have to do is run Michelle Obama, and it is a cake walk that Dems win. A two- fer….she is president but Obama is the REAL power controlling her every move “behind the curtain”. DOJ, FBI, NSA and CIA will make sure it happens…..if she ever ran (she says she does not want it?)….she is a shoe in and country then in deep doo-doo.

  6. Delusional on display. She can’t run as R….nor any success as Independant. She needs DEMS. And for that she has to pass muster with the tree all powerful rulers: Clintons, Obama and Califoirnia Pelosi …(Gavin Newsom is their choice to run) etc… All three of those powerful factions do not trust each other. And then you have the deep state DOJ, FBI, NSA and CIA choosing….they will want their own “puppet” candidate (think ole’ Dementia Joe). PLUS! Ms. Cheney may be the right sex….but her skin color is wrong!!! …and she is not a Lesbian 🙂

  7. And this is how the Uniparty works.

Nothing new to any Vermonter. We are under complete uniparty control.
