Bernie Sanders raised more than $34.5 million, teachers among top Q4 donors

By Mary Margaret Olohan

The most common occupation for fourth-quarter donors to 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders is teacher, his campaign said Thursday.

The Vermont senator raised more than $34.5 million in the final months of 2019, rounding out the fourth quarter with the largest campaign donations yet announced by a Democratic 2020 presidential candidate. Sanders brought in a total of $96 million in donations during 2019, with an average campaign donation of about $18.

The most common occupation of fourth-quarter Sanders’ donations was “teacher,” according to a press release from the Sanders campaign.

The campaign also noted the five most common employers for Sanders’ donors were Amazon, Starbucks, Walmart, the U.S. Postal Service and Target.

Sanders’ donations compare to lower numbers from his fellow Democratic candidates. Former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg said he brought in $24.7 million in the fourth quarter, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii raised $3.4 million, and former Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren have not yet announced their donations.

Warren previously announced a goal of $20 million, thereby lowering expectations for her fourth-quarter haul.

News that Sanders’ most common donors are teachers comes as conservatives become increasingly worried about progressive education. Public schools across the country have begun teaching progressive sex education, gender theory and political ideology.

Parents protest that their children are being taught explicit sexual material that violates their religious beliefs and encourages dangerous sexual behavior, regardless of parental consent. Over the summer, the conservative group “Our Watch” discovered that the American Civil Liberties Union was coaching California public school teachers how to help students obtain abortions without parental consent.

Also, the largest teachers’ union in the U.S. took a pro-abortion stance in July and promised to “vigorously oppose” all attacks on Roe v. Wade.

“The NEA vigorously opposes all attacks on the right to choose and stands on the fundamental right to abortion under Roe v. Wade,” the National Education Association said in July.

“Through existing media channels, the NEA will honor the leadership of women, non-binary, and trans people, and other survivors who have come forward to publicly name their rapists and attackers in the growing, international, #MeToo movement,” the union said in a statement. “Furthermore, the NEA will include an assertion of our defense of a person’s right to control their own body, especially for women, youth, and sexually marginalized people.”

  1. Teachers. It figures. These are the people that are supposed to be so smart and they will vote for a man that has done nothing for this State or nation since he has been in office. You’d think that they’d look at his record but as C.Henry said, they don’t teach, they indoctrinate their liberal agenda.

  2. Teachers go on strike to get more money, then give it to the likes of Sanders so Sanders can and will protect them. Then the teachers need to make up those contributions, so they strike again to make up the donations. It’s a perpetual money flow machine.

Sanders knows where the money machine is and how to get his palms greased.

  3. It is likely many millions of Bernie’s “haul” will end up in his tax free foundation, as happened with the Clintons and Gores.

They also travelled on private planes, and limos and added their numerous, lucrative speaking fees, bribes, to their foundations.

It is all part of them riding the gravy train of “being green, fighting global warming”, with everyone else paying for it.

The more they scare-monger us, the more money we waste and the more money goes to their foundations and to Bloomberg’s Financial Services Company.

    You get it, yes?

  4. Dam the burnster gonna be able to buy a freaking castle now to go
along with his other 3 houses… He’ll have way more cash left over
this time then when the criminal clinton bought him off. Maybe he
can trade in the Audi for a Mercedes-Maybach Starting at $173,000 *
for that private Jet feel he likes in his quest to spew co2…

As for the teachers you now see why the kids graduate without Knowing
    a thing…..(besides how to protest)

  5. Bernie Sanders raised more than $34.5 million,” Teachers ” among top Q4 donors,
what else would you expect from these liberals?

They don’t educate, they indoctrinate……….. socialist agenda day in & day out.

So for educated people, they are pretty stupid wasting their money on a socialist
running as a Democrat, the DNC will not give him the nod as their Candidate.

    • …pretty stupid wasting their money…

Are your sure? It seems to me they’re laughing all the way to the bank. If not with Bernie, with some one else hand picked by the education establishment.

      • Really? The NEA is the most powerful and wealthy special interest union in the country, they control the legislature, their members have nice jobs, great benefits, work only 178 days a year, and have a great pension plan…all paid for with yours and my money. ‘Born and bred in the briar patch.’
