Bernie Sanders comments on whether he’s running for president in 2020

Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders revealed on Monday that he will “probably” launch a bid for president if another candidate does not emerge who is more likely to beat President Donald Trump in 2020.

“If there’s somebody else who appears who can, for whatever reason, do a better job than me, I’ll work my ass off to elect him or her,” Sanders said in an interview with New York Magazine. “If it turns out that I am the best candidate to beat Donald Trump, then I will probably run.”

Sanders, who unsuccessfully ran a 2016 presidential campaign as a Democrat, asserted that while he does not particularly desire to hold the position, the ideas he espouses are best for the country.

“I’m not one of those sons of multimillionaires whose parents told them they were going to become president of the United States,” Sanders continued. “I don’t wake up in the morning with any burning desire that I have to be president.”

The Vermont senator has frequently criticized Trump both politically and personally, however, he has recently heated up his rhetoric against the president.

“We must be honest and straightforward and say that we have a president who is a racist, a president who is a sexist, a president who is a homophobe, a president who is a xenophobe and a president who is a religious bigot,” Sanders said on Nov. 14 during National Action Network’s annual legislative and policy conference. “It gives me no joy to tell you that, but that is the simple truth and we’ve got to confront that truth.”

The list of Democratic senators who are mulling over their own challenge to Trump in 2020 is continuing to grow. Following midterm elections, Democratic Sens. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota both announced they are considering a presidential run and Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York acknowledged that she may be reneging on her promise to serve out her six-year Senate term if she runs, and is elected to, the position.

Other Democratic senators who are rumored to be planning a presidential run include Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kamala Harris of California and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. Democratic Sen. Jon Tester of Montana predicted that as many as “13 or 14” senators could end up running.

  1. Bernie wouldn’t run if “someone could do a better job than him” Thats a pretty low bar for someone to overcome.

    • Another money and media exposure grabber. I think both should point to their heads and abbreviate Mountain.

  2. He was only joking about working his ass off, he’s never worked any
thing off in his whole millionaire life. It’s time to retire by the lake.

Besides he’s a loser, even to the biggest loser, Hillary= who beat him!
In addition to his being TFO, the newer commies are offering the leftie
voters more free Stuff than Bernie can even begin to imagine!!!

I was shocked when he called Trump by whole Dem’s litany of ‘-ist’, e.g.
race-, sex-, etc. etc. but he didn’t call him an anti-Semite?

Than he had the chutzpah to say he’s telling the truth, which he wouldn’t
know if it bit him in the …, well you know where.

  3. Are you kidding us!! How do those who support Bernie feel about his once again telling
them one thing and then doing another within weeks. He knew all along that he was going
to run for president but could not say those words when asked during a debate. In fact
he was offended that the question was even asked. So he was just elected to a position
that he will again not fulfill for the next 2 years. What a joke.

  4. You can fool some of the people some of the time, and you can fool some of the people all of the time, but you can’t fool the electoral college. Bernie Sanders has zero chance of ever becoming President of the United States. His ideas are too idiotic.

    • The problem is he can do massive damage and make himself stinking rich just by running and losing. There is a tactic used by many countries to destabilize a country they wish to tear down or profit from called subversion. In the debate there were some very strong tells. When people are overjoyed they often laugh, I find myself doing this often when the truth is exposed.

So Lawrence Zupan called him out, said his rhetoric and propaganda was the most dangerous thing to our Republic. Bernie was wasn’t laughing because he though it was funny, he was laughing because he was overjoyed with the thought of reaching his goals.

Our education system, face book feeds of very sophisticated propaganda from the Democratic Socialists should not be taken lightly, they’d done massive, massive damage in many countries with this exact plan.

Yes, to anyone with any classical education, understanding of human nature and some background in basic civics, his ideas rightly are absurd….but those who’ve been indoctrinated with social justice…he’s the messiah.

  5. Suddenly 2 weeks after being elected, he says he will run. So Bernie, what would you call that?

Bernie also won’t live up to the tax code he espouses everyone should be doing? What would you call that?

Bernie runs as a Democrate and Independent, so nobody has a chance to run against him on the Democratic ticket, what do you call that?

Bernie would only have one debate with his opponent, what would you call that?

It’s very easy to call people names…….to say you’ll give others money away…….what do you call that?

The Scandinavian countries you say are socialist are hyper capitalist…so what do you call that?

People who try and tear down the structures, morals, good works, government in a country are called what? The military calls this subversion, it’s used by many foreign countries to tear down an undermine others. So comrade, where did you get your training?

  6. Wow, isn’t old Bernie ” SoapBox ” Sander just a ” knight in shining armor ” he’ll step in
If it doesn’t look like any other candidate can beat Trump ………… what a buffoon.

Does he think his “socialist minions” are enough to get him in the WH …. what an Idiot?

Even though he’ll run under a DemocRAT banner, they will never give him the nod !!

Hey, Bernie If you run then run as an Independent or a socialist as that’s what you are.

  7. October 29, 2018 Channel 17 Debate Bernie Sanders danced around the question, or he thought he did in his own mind. Now, Nov. 27, 2018 3rd Term U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders seeking 2020 Presidential run, so who will be Vermont’s U.S. Senator getting work done for Vermonters?

Moderator asked Sanders directly this question, now I ask the moderator from Seven Days or Vermont Media sources.

Vermont Media, who will be Vermont’s U.S. Senator working for Vermonters now that 2020 Sanders Presidential run planning has begun?

    • Good points Ed, this should be the head lines across our state if there was any objective news. Just like when Shumlin “suddenly” got the numbers that single payer wouldn’t work after the elections. The timing is very, very convenient no? The press should be all over this like a bad rash.

Good work on your election…you’ve got many supporters….it’s really good to see that.
