Vermont is a state with an opioid epidemic, homelessness and housing crises, gun violence in once peaceful towns, and a lack of employees. We cannot legislate or tax our way out of all the difficulties confronting Vermont that have been neglected and ignored.
The state will then automatically deduct 5 percent of said employees’ paychecks (increasing to 8 percent over time), putting the money into that account — without the employees’ consent!
At the statehouse this past session, a majority of Vermont legislators took a brazen, controversial and unconstitutional step away from representative government towards technocracy — defined as rule based on an elite of “technical experts.”
It seems that the only solution we hear much about for the homeless, most of whom have mental health or drug abuse issues, is a stay at a hotel, bus tickets out of town or a prison cell. That’s what happens when you tear down institutions.
