Statehouse Headliners: Political contributions to Vermont Legislature candidates

By Guy Page

In an effort to enhance election transparency, Statehouse Headliners and the Vermont Daily Chronicle have published a spreadsheet entitled “2016 General Election Contributions for all Legislators seeking re-election in 2018.”

The information was collated by Guy and Timothy Page of Page Communications from public information available on the Vermont Secretary of State Elections Division – Campaign Finance page.

While it is unlikely that any single contribution will influence how a candidate will vote, knowing candidates’ financial supporters can provide insight into their positions on issues.

The report lists reported 2016 general election total contributions and No. 1 donors among PACs, other candidates, and business/group/organizations for each incumbent seeking re-election this year. If the space next to the candidate’s name says “No data” or is blank, it is likely that the candidate raised less than $500 and was not required to file a report. Individual donors are not listed, but can be seen by following the steps below.

To find all reported political contributions for 2016 General Election, follow these five steps:

1. Click on: https://campaignfinance.sec.state.vt.us/Public/CampaignToDate
2. Under Election Cycle, click on 2016 General
3. Under Registration Name, type in last name of candidate, then click on name in drop down box
4. Click on “Show Contributions”
5. Click on “Data”

In future issues, Statehouse Headliners and the Vermont Daily Chronicle hope to publish political contributions related to high-profile issues, as well as updates on 2018 political contributions.

Statehouse Headliners is intended primarily to educate, not advocate. It is e-mailed to an ever-growing list of interested Vermonters, public officials and media. 1. This year, for the first time in my life, I have donated over $500.00 to a local candidate for State Representative. In exchange for my donation, I have one expectation – that she works as hard as she can to win, and send the nasty, condescending Progressive witch back home.

  2. Get elected to the Legislature and become self-efficient. Take bogus travel & lodging pay as is reported by legislators. They only have to present “perhaps” expenses. NH has to present receipts.

Bernie never worked a day in his life, got into Gov and became a millionaire with three houses and one on on Lake Champlain.

No wonder there were so many people were running for office, WELFARE, and don’t need to work. The better people didn’t get elected to correct the “system”.
