Vermont Right to Life: Unrestricted abortion for all nine months of pregnancy remains legal in Vermont

The following statement is from the Vermont Right to Life Committee regarding the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

Today the US Supreme Court handed down their decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The 1973 Roe v Wade decision has been overturned and, “the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.”

The case under consideration, Thomas E. Dobbs, State Health Officer of the Mississippi Department of Health v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, involved a Mississippi law banning all abortions over 15 weeks gestational age except in medical emergencies and in the case of severe fetal abnormality.

Constitutional experts on both sides of the debate over abortion have long criticized the Roe decision as having created a right that did not exist and for broadly over reaching their jurisdiction. Those errors have been corrected today.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade has no effect on abortion in Vermont. In Vermont, abortion has been legal since the 1972 Vermont Supreme Court case in Beecham v. Leahy. In 2019, Act 47 created a statute that further protects unlimited, unregulated abortion through all nine months of pregnancy irrespective of the US Supreme Court decision in Dobbs.

“Extremist proponents of abortion rights in Vermont will use the Supreme Court decision to attempt to rally support for passage of Proposal 5/Article 22, stated Mary Hahn Beerworth, Executive Director of Vermont Right to Life. “Proponents must not be allowed to mislead Vermonters into believing that ‘Article 22 is needed,’ or that the amendment simply ‘codifies Roe v. Wade,’ when in fact the amendment far exceeds the holding in Roe.”

Vermont Right to Life urges all journalists in Vermont covering today’s decision to responsibly include in their reports the fact that nothing about today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision changes the legality of abortion in our state. Passage of H. 57, now Act 47, is clear statutory protection of unlimited and unregulated abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

  1. Isn’t it funny that the Socialist State of Vermont, and yes that means you too Phil-boy, knowing that Roe vs Wade may be overturned the Commiecrat legislature made sure full blown abortion was passed in Vermont? They love the Constitution when they can use in when it’s in their favor to do so. Like using the 10th Amendment to nullify the federal marijuana laws and legalize it. The Federal government didn’t sue Vermont. They knew that there was nothing in the Constitution concerning marijuana, so each state decides whether it’s legal or not. Abortion the same thing, not in the Constitution, decided by the states.
Then the Commiecrats are made about the Supreme Court’s ruling on guns which is enumerated in the Constitution. Any sane person can see what the Commiecrats are up to.

“No legislative act, therefore, contrary to the Constitution, can be valid. To deny this, would be to affirm, that the deputy is greater than his principal; that the servant is above his master; that the representatives of the people are superior to the people themselves; that men acting by virtue of powers, may do not only what their powers do not authorize, but what they forbid.”
    Federalist No. 78: Hamilton

  2. To the good people of Vermont, I wonder where your red line is, the point of which ‘enough is enough’.
I cannot fathom what I read here.. 9 month old babies being murdered and this seems to be something to be proud of by your own governor? He thinks it’s good to murder the states future population?
You have a state that is depopulating, you are trying to pay people to move there, isn’t it common sense to stop murdering the babies coming along that will be future Vermonters by birth?
That is the next generation of Native Vermonters, do these people have no value to you at all?

I recall the days not long ago that we were celebrating the advances we’d made in saving babies that were born way too early.
There was a time when on the news we’d hear about how babies that had born at 2 and 3 pounds were finally able to go home.
We celebrated.. we all wanted modern Neonatal units in our local hospitals.
And now look at what we are doing, openly murdering full term babies and celebrating the right to do so.

    Read your history books.
The good people have always packed up and moved when things got so bad that they refused to live among the depraved.
How on earth can anyone in their right mind think it’s okay to have the right to murder 9 month old babies..
    This blows my mind.
New England, NY, CT, CA, these states are getting truly sickening. No wonder flyover country hates the two coasts.

    • Laura, you are right. Vermont has become a baby-killing state. Do you know with a blotch abortion, the baby is born alive, and they put the baby aside and let the baby die, from hunger,, No one is to touch the baby, Do you know they sell the dead baby body parts!! I know this for a fact,
It’s murder plain and simple..If you don’t want a child, use protection, get on the pill, use a condom, or don’t have SEX—- These fools have no idea how many couples can’t have babies, It’s hard to adopt, The demonRATS are killing babies..
As soon as our commie legislators heard that the SCOTUS was going to rule on the Roe v Wade they wrote the new bill that babies can be aborted for up to 9 mos..
      The demonRATS love killing babies….remember they said that babies aren’t humans. They are humans from the day of conception;;;

  3. Oh! This is great! We can kill babies any time before they are born. Who cares about babies anyway? Just think. Another day or two and they’d be out in the world with those little hands and little feet. They’d look up at you and smile and giggle with those big eyes. Oh. They might cry. We can’t have that. OK. Let’s have the abortionist go in with the tool that cuts into babies brain and sucks it out. It’s a horrible, painful way to go but, what the hell? It’s not a human, right? Then they turn it around and pull it out by those little feet and dispose of what’s left. All done! Say! Maybe we can do like we do with our deceased pets and have it cremated and put in a little urn so we can have little Suzy on our mantle. HOW SICK CAN WE GET???? Is there ANY hope for us at all?? God help us!

  4. Vermonters must remember when it we go out to vote who supports the slaughter of The unborn

Senator Joe Benning is running for lieutenant governor in the state of Vermont and he supports prop 5 and the murder of The unborn

Senator Benning and claims to be a Republican and to have Republican values however he is a turncoat to the Republican party and should not be elected to any political office in the state of Vermont

Remember Joe Benning is also one of the turncoats that went along with the other rinos in the state of Vermont to sign a petition to get Donald Trump removed from office early in spite of the fact he was already leaving office.

These people are disgrace not only to the Republican party but to the state of Vermont and to what we expect from elected representatives

People please research every one of these candidates and see what they have done to support Joe Biden and the destruction he has done to the United States of America

It’s time to stop the destruction of our state and our country from the inside out at the hands of these so-called Republicans.

  5. The laws allowed and tolerated by the residents of a given state reflect upon the moral fiber and ccharacter of its residents/citizens. The time is past for deciding to continue supporting a government with so little regard for ALL life. How many moce to effect the necessary changes will be the indicator of the wisdom of remaining under the control of its toxicity.
