The US government talks the talk about Covid vaccination but doesn’t walk the walk. The CDC and the FDA say “get vaccinated” but they don’t act as if they really believe in the efficacy of the shots.
You couldn’t be more pro-Covid vaccination than me. I stayed up all night to make sure I could register for my shot the moment the Vermont computer would let me. After having both doses and waiting our two weeks, Mary and I joyfully broke our self-imposed quarantine and went on a six-week RV trip to get reacquainted with relatives and friends and then flew to Italy to meet our newest granddaughter.

Italy let us in without quarantine because we had vaccine certificates; they would also have let us in if we had negative Covid tests within 48 hours of our arrival. The US government didn’t care about our vaccinated status; instead they insisted on Covid tests three days before departure, which is a much less reliable indication of whether we were likely to bring the virus home. Italy’s actions encourage vaccination; the US doesn’t seem to think it’s important.
Canada says it is ready to let US citizens drive into their country with proof of vaccination. The US is neither wiling to reciprocate nor has it said that US citizens can use their vaccination status to drive home again. Canada is encouraging vaccination; the US doesn’t seem to think it’s important.
Colleges around the country including Vermont are requiring vaccination as a condition of returning in the fall. Good for them. But there isn’t even a US advisory which says that state and hospitals should make vaccination compulsory for health care workers.
It was entirely appropriate for the FDA to give “emergency approval” of the Covid vaccines when they did. It is, however, totally inappropriate that the vaccines have not now received final approval and that we have also not been told what the FDA is waiting for. Lack of final approval is an excuse – and not actually an unreasonable one – for people not to get vaccinated. Lack of information about what is required for final approval is a great way to stoke conspiracy theories. If Dr. Fauci and President Biden believe approval will come before the end of August as they have both said, they need to tell us why there isn’t final approval now. I suspect the reasons are bureaucratic but that’s no excuse for undermining public confidence in both the vaccines and the approval process.
According to the NYTimes, “In France, as of Aug. 1, anyone without a “health pass” showing they have been vaccinated or recently tested negative will not be admitted to restaurants, cafes or movie theaters, and they will not be able to travel long distances by train…”
More than 2.2 million people signed up to get vaccinated in the first 48 hours after French President Macron made this announcement. Note he is not saying vaccination is mandatory; French people who don’t want to get vaccinated but do want to travel or eat out, just need to get the very frequent Covid tests necessary to protect others from them. But he did say the tests will not remain free. Fair enough.
Instead of acting as if vaccinations matter, the US government spends its efforts trying to ban “bad information.” The way to stop bad information is to provide good information. The way to strengthen conspiracy theories is trying to ban any sort of speech.
Accelerating infections from the Delta variant are now causing some Americans to rethink their opposition to vaccination. A federal government which acts as if it thinks vaccination matters instead of just talking can still assure us a practical if not absolute end to the pandemic by fall.

A new measles vaccine recently received its FDA license after TEN YEARS of safety studies. Even if the FDA approves the Covid shots this year, that is still a far shorter timeline than is common for a vaccine—especially one using novel technology never before used in human beings.
Given the troubling number of breakthrough cases in the world’s most vaccinated countries, and the stunning statistics pertaining to injuries and death, the author seems to be aiming at the wrong target. Instead of worrying about a more transmissible (but likely less lethal) variant and stepping on the gas, we should be stepping back and evaluating this entire program—without the relentlessly fearmongering media blaring in the background.

In his missive declaring a compulsory vax – Evslin calling unvaccinated “parasytes” – isn’t this what the Nazis called the Jews:

I have an immune system complete with killer T-Cells – I keep myself well at own expense and rarely ill – so no Mr Evslin I am *not* a parasyte by a long shot – this is not an issue for those of us “following the science” and taking the recognized supplements and other proven wellness treatments, unlike Mr Evslin and ilk.

I guess what Tom doesn’t understand is that he has a lab created parasite flowing through his blood stream now. This guy sold himself as a republican. He neither believes in individual rights nor our medical choice decisions. This is the same guy who practically hid under his bed with a mask on waiting for the pharmaceutical industry to save him. I hope this isn’t the example of the conservative republicans we have representing us! He is apparently similar to those screaming for us to be vaxed while they pull down their mask to take a drag from a cigarette. This is the kind of hypocrisy running through our society. They are scared to death of a media generated virus frenzy with a 99.5% of recovery but can’t be bothered with the lung cancer and heart problems caused by smoking.
I see my Dr once a year for wellness check and lab panel, and rarely ill but in high risk category. I do not view my fellow man as “parasytes” leaching off of my good health bc I an not a drain on the system by utilizing it iow – I have no place in the line. I take low-cost medicines so I can pay for them myself if needed. I do not have the routine expensive diagnostics of any kind. Stunning and illustrative to know there are such hateful ppl in our world who want us removed from the public square.

And so it begins…. New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio has announced the forced vaccination of all 340,000 municipal employees effective September 13, 2021. Mandatory vaccinations for a virus with over a 99% survival rate? This is not about a virus, this is about control.

The issues surrounding this experimental gene therapy which is erroneously referred to as a “vaccine”, do not even come close to having anything to do with public health. It’s just one more tool that is being used to divide people. Maybe the issue should be labeled “Vaccism”. Add it to race, gender, voter fraud, and any one of a number of other divisive issues that top the current news media charts. Let’s face the truth that we are all being played. Let’s begin to stand up to those who would infringe on our freedoms because think that they know what is best for us. There’s still the chance that we can save our Republic.

We’re now curtailing freedom of speech and free dissemination of information because now the government, with their help-maids, big tech, is taking it upon itself to decide for us what’s real information and what’s misinformation. The assumption is that we, the people, are too stupid to figure things out for ourselves and we need to be shielded from information that the government doesn’t agree with.
What can possibly go wrong when the state determines what’s good medical information and what’s not, and disregards evidence, testimony from well-qualified front-line doctors, and studies that support the view that the government wants to suppress?
If the federal government really gave a damn it would’ve recommended ivermectin for prevention of Covid-19 long ago. It has another goal, apparently, than that of saving as many lives as possible and preventing as many Covid-19 infections as possible, while still preserving core American values of liberty and tolerance. Maybe the idea is to get rid of liberty and tolerance?
I agree with Tom: banning speech is the wrong way to go. But apparently the government feels this is necessary because otherwise people will learn the truth.
Notice the coercive element in France’s position: you can be free if you pay to get tested. After a while I imagine the cost to keep getting tested adds up. So yes, you’re “free” to choose, just as you would be if I told you that you have a choice between getting vaccinated and me shooting you in the head: your choice, you’re “free.” The problem with coercion and penalties in medical matters was why the 1905 US Supreme Court warned against oppressive penalties for not complying with government medical mandates; unfortunately this opinion was ignored in subsequent rulings. It seems that one’s definition of “coercion” depends on which end of the stick one gets that coerces those who disagree with what has been determined– through infinite, unsurpassed, and infallible wisdom– is best for everyone else.
Ivermectin solves a lot of problems. Maybe that’s why the government is fighting so hard against it.
Wow, what a happy little propagandist! Tom, I’m sure you’d go all in on insisting that we figure out some way to distinguish those who are unvaccinated from the virally pure vaccinated. The Nazis put forth over 400 laws restricting the freedom of the Jews from 1933 to 1939. It started slowly, but the message was clear, Jews were a threat to the racially pure Aryan society. All the ills of the society were due to the Jews. Read the laws and substitute the word for and it is quickly evident where you and your ilk are headed. For instance, on November 9-10, 1938, Nazi legislation barred Jews from all public schools and universities, as well as from cinemas, theaters, and sports facilities.
And as for that experimental gene therapy that is being peddled as a “vaccine” No thank you! Not now, not ever. Mainly because this vaccine for COVID is not “safe and effective.” It has never been shown to be. One is prohibited from stating that these vaccines are “safe and effective” by the FDA’s very own regulations. The CDC, FDA, NIH, and health officials continue to make this statement when under law they are prohibited from making these claims, especially because the COVID vaccines are still “investigational” and experimental.
The FDA’s rules state that if a drug or vaccine is investigational, one is prohibited from stating that it is “safe and effective.” Why? It is still under investigation. It is that simple. You are being lied to. My view is today they must be withdrawn from the market and not one COVID vaccine should be given to children.
It is also important to understand that the vaccine has never been shown to reduce hospitalization or death, or ICU use, or moderate or severe COVID. Nor does it stop infection or transmission. It was only geared toward reducing “mild” COVID symptoms. The media, health experts, and doctors who state it reduces hospitalization and death have been openly lying. Oh, and also, asymptomatic spread is a blatant lie as well. So go ahead and enjoy your vaccine, but while you’re at it don’t tread on me!
