Officials unsure how many Vermont deaths due primarily to Covid

Statistics revealed during Tuesday’s press conference show that 455 Vermonters have died of Covid-19. At least some of these Vermonters died “with” Covid-19 and not as a direct result of the disease, Gov. Phil Scott and Health Commissioner Mark Levine said. How many? They don’t know.

St. Johnsbury man led away in handcuffs for not wearing mask at school basketball game

A St. Johnsbury man was handcuffed by Newport City police and cited for trespass last week after he refused to put on a mask at a high school basketball game, Police Chief Travis Bingham said Monday.

State House vax passport rule to be decided

If the recommendation adopted last week is approved with change this week, State House leaders must then determine how to deal with lawmakers and staff who refuse to show proof of vaccination or submit to testing.

Scott admin urges employers to require worker, customer vax

Blaming the 5% of unvaccinated Vermonters for “70% of hospitalizations and close to 80% of ICU admissions,” the Scott administration sent a Dec. 16 letter to business owners asking them to take aim at unvaccinated workers and customers.

47 to 15: Mask-free towns in Vermont outnumber masked 3-1

According to the Vermont Daily Chronicle Mask Mandate Scoreboard, 47 selectboards and city councils have either said no or are unlikely to raise the issue — an effective “no.”

Scoreboard: 12 municipalities have said no to mask mandates, 8 have said yes

Williston approved a mask mandate. Selectboards in Brandon, Cambridge, Middlesex, and Shelburne all declined mask mandates. Shelburne passed a resolution recommending mask wearing. As of Wednesday morning, 12 municipalities have said no, eight have said yes.

How far would our Legislature go to reduce the transmission of Covid-19? That’s a question being asked publicly by Gov. Phil Scott, and at least one reporter. Thursday, House Speaker Jill Krowinski and Senate President Pro Tem Becca Balint responded.

Only 30 Vermonters re-infected with symptomatic Covid

About 30 Vermonters who contracted symptomatic Covid-19 symptoms have recovered and then suffered a second bout of symptomatic Covid-19, Health Commissioner Mark Levine said Tuesday. There have been 134 hospitalizations and 59 deaths among the 4,881 cases of vaccine breakthrough this year.

Vax-only strategy not working, time for mask mandate, lawmakers say

Vermont’s vaccination program isn’t enough to stop the pandemic, lawmakers and health care providers said at a press conference Monday evening. Their demand for a new state of emergency and universal mask mandate got the cold shoulder from Gov. Phil Scott on Tuesday.
