Despite pressure, Democrat won’t change vote supporting clean heat standard veto

Almost immediately, Rep. Bock reportedly experienced serious pressure from the House Democratic leadership to change his vote — something allowed under little-known House rules. “I cannot imagine why I would change my vote,” Bock told the Vermont Daily Chronicle.

Vermont House of Representatives upholds governor’s veto of clean heat standard by one vote

H.715, a bill that would have mandated a switch of heating methods and fuels in an effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, fell one vote short of the two-thirds required for passage Tuesday in the Vermont House of Representatives.

Bill Huff: Fixing Vermont’s pension crisis will require two key steps

A Defined Benefit Plan freeze must be implemented. This means no more plan participants will be admitted into the plan. Concurrent with the freeze, a Defined Contribution Plan would be offered to not only new hires, but also to existing Defined Benefit Plan participants.

Campaign for Vermont: Legislature chooses incremental progress over sweeping reform

The legislature overrode Governor Scott’s veto of the pension bill unanimously. Bills moving forward include housing and workforce development, economic development, and student weighting. Universal school meals were also approved by the Senate this week.

“What the Legislature has passed is a bill that includes some policy, with absolutely no details on costs and impacts, and a lot of authority and policy making delegated to the Public Utility Commission (PUC), an unelected board.”

House approves bill allowing state to control local school mascots

On Thursday the Vermont House of Representatives gave preliminary approval to a bill that would allow the the state to dictate mascots and other school branding over the wishes of local residents and school boards. The House on Friday passed the bill on third reading, sending it on to the governor.

They are so furious with people who use fossil fuels that one Democrat running for Congress swore that she would “tax the hell out of” fossil fuels. Why are Democrats using such aggressive language with Vermonters who are just trying to get to work and heat their homes?

Paul Dame: Stop the Mystery Tax (taxation without representation)

Our best hope now is a veto from Governor Scott who has indicated that the bill does not have his support. But after that we need to put pressure on just a few Democrats or Independents to sustain his veto of this new tax.
