In May, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler issued a memorandum directing the agency to “ensure that its regulatory decisions are rooted in sound, transparent and consistent approaches to evaluating benefits and costs.”
“There’s an argument to say if it’s your property, it’s your business,” said Bob Jarvis, a member of the board. “We need to be very mindful of that.”
By imposing a certification process with an added fee, Vermont will in effect be discouraging recent graduates from considering becoming residential contractors. Or perhaps, these graduates might choose to take their talents outside Vermont.
Elsewhere I have fondly remembered John for his personal qualities and service, but here I’d like to share the message he gave in 2006 to Vermonters.
If Gov. Phil Scott, House Speaker Mitzi Johnson and Senate President Tim Ashe, as well as our congressional leaders, are sincere about curtailing regulatory fatigue, they should listen to those who on a daily basis are required to comply with the thousands of pages of regulations.
