Letter: What is the greatest threat to our country?
Free speech is one of our foundational principles and we must fight to maintain it. We must not allow ourselves to be steamrolled by thuggish tactics and fear-mongering.

Mr. Varney is correct to flag this program as another entitlement that he feels will never be repealed. However, it will do a lot of damage in the meantime.
This teenage voting idea is nothing more than a means to an end and it does not have the good of these young people in mind. Not at all.
Vermont is on the doorstep of taking in hundreds of millions of federal dollars. The money will fund dozens of infrastructure projects: roads, bridges, dams, sewers, water treatment, broadband, government buildings, schools and child care centers.
The bottle bill, the modernization and recalibration of Vermont’s tax system, the bill requiring registration of construction contractors, and the COVID recovery bill all increase revenues to the government while adding greater burdens on business and individuals.
In defense of the decision, Scott points to an “unacceptable disparity” in the pace of vaccination for Vermonters who are BIPOC. What Scott fails to acknowledge is that the disparity is the direct result of his own policies.
We are witnessing corporate America and Big Green Energy flooding social media and legacy news with advertisements pushing the virtues of transitioning to battery operated transportation. The external costs of this Green New Deal are being largely ignored.
Our biweekly briefings given by Governor Phil Scott are currently promoting vaccinations. Like it or not, the vaccines are experimental at best and have no extensive track record or long-term data to support them.
Moving McNeil’s primary electrical source to natural gas from wood would reduce CO2 emissions. Yet proposals 3 and 7 would disallow this. This is counter-productive.
These corporate, monopolistic, social media cartels are playing a terribly dangerous game in silencing legitimate political dissent. Our nation is founded on the principles of free speech and the ability to have a redress of grievances with our elected officials.
I am appalled that Governor Phil Scott would even consider directing schools to ask children if they joined other households for Thanksgiving. Governor Scott is not asking parents, he is asking children to incriminate their families.
We have some work to do, and that applies to everyone who holds that the rule of law and standards — and application of such — apply to everyone equally going forward. It applies even to the Democrats and their wholly owned subsidiary, the media.
