President Joe Biden falsely suggested that Americans who purchase firearms at gun shows don’t need to first pass a background check prior to the transaction. Federal law already mandates firearm dealers to initiate a background check on prospective buyers at stores and gun shows.

We heard multiple times throughout the S.30 hearings that these laws are needed to combat “right-wing extremism” and to prevent an “insurrection like we saw on Jan. 6” from happening in Vermont. Every single one of the anti-gun lobbyists hit those same exact talking points.

Democrats vow to act on gun control, but nothing is likely to happen

While the Senate will likely vote on H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446, two gun control bills that passed the House last week, they would both need 60 votes to overcome an all but certain Republican filibuster. There is even division among Democrats, as West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin came out against both bills Tuesday.
