The largest organization of labor unions in the U.S. slammed the Green New Deal Friday for combating climate change by threatening the livelihoods of millions of Americans.
The bill could cost between $51 trillion and $93 trillion over ten years, according to AFF. The costs are not only unsustainable, AFF argues, but they are expected to increase over time.
On Town Meeting Day, residents in select towns across the state will be voting on climate resolutions promoted by the climate-activist organization 350 Vermont.

Three Progressive-sponsored bills taking a hard line against carbon and climate change have been introduced into the Vermont House of Representatives this week.

Thus, the potential cost of the Green New Deal could range from 63 percent of the median to nearly 106 percent of what the average household earns a year. The median U.S. household income was $61,372 in 2017, according to government figures.
Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez posed a question to her supporters during a streaming conversation from her kitchen Sunday night: “Is it okay to still have children” because of global warming?
“At this stage, I am not a supporter of it because it’s been looked at very cursorily and if you read the language, it’s a very big program with a huge governmental cost,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California said. “None of that’s been looked at.”
“California has been forced to cancel the massive bullet train project after having spent and wasted many billions of dollars. They owe the Federal Government three and a half billion dollars. We want that money back now. Whole project is a ‘green’ disaster!” President Trump tweeted.
Welch called the Green New Deal “a broad outline of ambitious goals” and said Congress over the next two years would be drafting legislation and conducting hearings to make progress toward those goals.
The Green New Deal’s dismissal of nuclear power dooms it to failure as a realistic plan to reduce carbon emissions. Doubters need only look at Vermont, a climate change expert wrote in Forbes Magazine recently.
