McClaughry: EPA case a victory for the rule of law — will Biden now declare a ‘climate emergency’?

Biden, urged on by Sen. Bernie Sanders, is reported to be fashioning a declaration of a “national climate emergency” that he hopes will authorize him to do whatever he thinks is needed to fend off a climate Armageddon. The Supreme Court will probably not be persuaded that use of executive power is constitutional.

Call for conservation! Vermonters to reduce electricity use Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Avoid running major appliances like the dishwasher or clothing dryer. Use a toaster oven instead of an electric oven or grill outside. If you have an air conditioner or heat pump, set it 2-3° warmer. If you have an electric water heater, save your shower and laundry for later. Turn the lights off when you’re not in the room.

Germany runs back to nuclear power as Russia threatens to shut off gas to Europe

Germany’s three remaining nuclear plants had been scheduled to shut down by the end of the year after former Chancellor Angela Merkel moved to phase out nuclear energy; moreover, Germany’s environmental and economic ministries had advised against extending the life of the plants in March.

At almost no cost to themselves, anyone can impose the enormous cost of infrastructure delay on the builders and on the country.

New Hampshire to scrutinize municipalities that attempt to shift to renewable energy

The review will look at whether municipalities have the authority to “take any action that restricts or prohibits the types or fuel sources of energy production which may be used, delivered, converted, or supplied to customers.” Several communities have set “net-zero” carbon reduction goals that include a shift to reliance on renewable energies.

Biden admin unveils plan for states to track and reduce CO2 emissions from cars driving on highways

The Federal Highway Administration announced a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for states and municipalities to “track and reduce greenhouse gas emissions on their highways.” The plan would establish declining carbon dioxide targets statewide and create a method for the monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions.
