Guy Page: Windsor Selectboard refuses to say Pledge of Allegiance

The Pledge of Allegiance was tossed into the wastebasket of history this week by the Windsor Selectboard. Board members say there can be no “liberty and justice for all” until “black lives matter.” So they’ve stopped saying the pledge.

Their policy of provocation is cold-blooded, cynical and deceptive. Get some unprepared schlub to blurt out statements on camera, convince the public that everyone who supports the police is just like this Bad Guy, and create division. It’s a ploy.

The Associated Press, a U.S. wire service and news outlet, announced Monday that it will capitalize “black” when referring to the racial group in its stories, but not “white.”

Montpelier police chiefs push back on calls to defund departments

Police departments are facing dramatic cuts due to threats from social justice groups and COVID-19, and two police chiefs in Montpelier — one retired and one new on the job — say the trend will have a negative impact on communities.

John Klar: BLM versus the U.S. Flag in the Vermont capital

Fortunately, constitutional law is pretty clear about this type of abuse of power. Having granted BLM a permit, the city cannot constitutionally deny a competing political claim — in this case, a depiction of the American flag, and a phrase from the Pledge of Allegiance.

Candidate requests ‘Liberty and Justice for All’ be painted on State Street next to ‘Black Lives Matter’

In an appeal for unity, gubernatorial candidate John Klar has asked the Montpelier City Council for permission to paint the U.S. flag and words from the Pledge of Allegiance in red, white and blue next to the Black Lives Matter mural on State Street.
