Sen. Benning condemns violence against the People’s House

Montpelier, VT – June 29, 2022 – Sen. Joe Benning (R-Caledonia, Candidate for Lt. Governor) took to Facebook this week to denounce the recent vandalism committed at the State House in Montpelier during demonstrations in response to the US Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

As outlined in an op-ed released in the wake of the decision, Sen. Benning is deeply concerned about the rolling back of established constitutional rights, and has grave worries about this decision from the US Supreme Court. However, he cannot accept violence in any form as an acceptable answer to this political moment.

Sen. Benning’s full statement:

“I am very disheartened to learn of someone vandalizing our state house, likely done by someone upset with the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Violence of any kind (and I include vandalism in that definition) is absolutely unacceptable. Defiling “The People’s House” is especially abhorrent. The perpetrator(s?) should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Sen. Benning’s opinion article on the Dobbs Decision can be found here.

  1. Senator Benning did the right thing in condeming this vandalism. Extremists who break the law, whether they be on left or right or not matter how fervently they believe in their cause, should be condemmed and face the legal consequences of their actions.

  2. Liberal Rino Joe Benning blocks people from posting on his pages but has audacity to go after others.

Can you believe he is a full time attorney who brags about his brand new Harley. He also fleeces the “REAL REPUBLICANS” out of tax dollars while serving as a senator representing the Biden failure along with Phil Scott.

You denounce Trump, who gave his pay to charitable causes.

Yet you beg the hardworking, law-abiding, taxpayers to pay for your gas to travel around the state so you can brag about your journey to advocate for your support for Prop 5….THE SLAUGHTER OF THE UNBORN…

No way any knowledgeable REPUBLICAN should vote for you for Lt Governor.

Gregory Thayer’s representation of Republicans has been obvious.

He has traveled the state to speak about protecting our schools, our children, and Vermonters.

Greg is ready to promote what is best for all Vermonters…

We need promising change in Montpelier…Greg will be that change.

  3. Hey Joe, let’s see who the perpetrators are, let’s see who was upset by the ruling,
oh yeah, the looney left, for a ruling that won’t make a bit of difference in Vermont’s
” Killing Field ” on its young unborn.

Vermont, retirees leaving, college grads not staying, and killing off the unborn now that’s
    a plan Governor !!

  4. The only reason Joe Benning’s sentiments on the Statehouse violence are being published here on TNR (and, likely, on loads of other local media now) is because he was chided so on Vermont Daily Chronicle for not making a formal press release earlier. While this publication is better late than never, it is, nonetheless, mere equivocation from an otherwise liberal/progressive politician. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

    • And Mr Bennings response on VDC when his lack of “public comment”‘; like so many others…

“Guy: Have you not seen my comments about this on both my personal and candidate Facebook pages? Please correct your story. Thank you”

a day late and a dollar short……..what my parents would have said……..

      • Who the hell looks at Faceplant for this kind of information ? Why do you even participate in this cesspool of humanity ?

  5. So you dont like vandals… What about all the other violence, looting and burning that went on this past year? That’s ok Joe? What was done about that? NOTHING.
