Sanders statement on House passage of Build Back Better Act

WASHINGTON  – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Friday issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act:

“I applaud Democrats in the House of Representatives for uniting to pass the Build Back Better Act. Now the legislation comes to the Senate where I hope to see it strengthened in a number of ways.

“The American people overwhelmingly demand that we ask the wealthy and large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes. That’s what we must do. The American people overwhelmingly demand that we take on the greed of the pharmaceutical industry and lower the cost of prescription drugs. That’s what we must do. The American people overwhelmingly demand that we expand Medicare to cover dental, eyeglasses and hearing aids. That’s what we must do. The American people understand that we must act now to combat the existential threat of climate change and transform our energy system away from fossil fuels. That’s what we must do.

“The Senate has an opportunity to make this a truly historic piece of legislation. We will listen to the demands of the American people and strengthen the Build Back Better Act.”

  1. “The American people overwhelmingly demand that we take on the greed of the pharmaceutical industry ….”

That’s rich, Bernie. Those same greedy people would never suppress safe drugs to fight Covid in order for the Covid vaccines to get EUA, now, would they? Are you going to stand up to them for that, too?

  2. Spending trillions we don’t have when leftist policy has us in a recession we won’t come out of for 3 more years is pure stupidity… any that think their going to benefit
are fools and only have to look at the lies bydone has been feeding them that don’t
come true. If burnee and his political criminals would like to give away a few of their houses for their build back broke plans have at it.. leave hard working American’s out
of your flushing money down the toilet plan.. only 28% say it would be very helpful and 9 somewhat while 52% hurtful.. The real hurt will be your children having
to pay it off.. lets hope the senate can tie it up until it stalls out…

  3. “The American people overwhelmingly demand that we ask the wealthy and large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes.”

Just saying it’s ‘fair’ doesn’t make it so, Mr. Sanders.

My question is this: Why should we be taxing these entities in the first place? Does anyone honestly believe Bernie Sanders is more capable and has a better track record of investing our resources in programs that teach people to be productive citizens, as opposed to simply creating dependency on the State’s efforts to arbitrarily redistribute those resources – all while the State’s operatives (like Mr. Sanders) skim an inordinate share of the government’s transactions for their personal use?

For Mr. Sanders, as history shows us, it is the only way he’s been able to survive these last several decades at the standard of living to which he’s become accustom.

Now ask yourselves how those he’s been ‘helping’ have fared over these years.

“…what regulates the economy better, the government or individuals acting freely? The answer to that question is unequivocal: free markets regulate far more efficiently than government clerics ever could. We even know WHY that is: there are no ‘angels among men’, entities with a superior level of knowledge or intelligence than the accumulated decisions of millions upon millions of individuals acting freely. No one could possibly have better information than the market does, and no one can respond as quickly to changing market conditions.” Ayn Rand

Mr. Sanders is the proverbial ‘snake oil salesman’. Caveat emptor.

House Passes Biden’s Build Back Better Plan, Sending It To The Senate
      https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/cbo-confirms-biden-spending-bill-not-fully-paid-would-cost-367-billion-over-decade

The House of Representatives voted on President Biden’s $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Act tonight, just hours after the Congressional Budget Office found that it will add more than $367 billion to the budget deficit – a determination which contradicts the White House’s longstanding claim that the bill is ‘paid for.’

The CBO found that the draft legislation contains $1.636 trillion in spending, and $1.269 trillion in revenue over 10 years, adding $367 billion to the US deficit over that period.

      • The ‘cost’ is secondary, Willem. It’s the efficacy of the investment that counts.

To date, the best Mr. Sanders can show for his 30-year effort is a one-time increase in V.A. cost-of-living benefits and the re-naming of two Vermont post offices – not to mention our current border chaos, double digit inflation, supply chain issues, double standard law enforcement, record setting opioid overdoses and suicides, and students who can’t meet grade level standards. Did I miss anything?

Oh, yes. And the government’s hand in creating this Covid pandemic by funding gain-of-function virus research, while Big Pharma remains immune from consumer protection liabilities resulting from the use of the vaccines that are making billions of dollars of Big Pharma profits… profits Bernie Sanders wants to tax so he can continue to skim his ‘fair’ share to maintain ‘his’ standard of living.

Characterizing Mr. Sanders as a ‘snake oil salesman’ is being too kind

    • This really is very simple. “Fair” and “Equity”, like “Beauty” are undefinable. As the Greeks said, they are in the eye of the beholder.

It is incredibly sad that our dear leader for decades has utilized this trope as if the definition (his) is etched in stone.
