Video interview: Rep. Lefebvre says ‘Oregon has safeguards we do not have’ for mail-in voting

State Rep. Samantha Lefebvre, R-Orange, a member of the House Committee on Government Operations, told TNR’s Matthew Strong that election bill S.15 lacks safeguards for mail-in voting that other states use for their vote-by-mail systems. “Oregon has safeguards put into place that we do not have,” Lefebvre said.

While Lefebvre and fellow committee member Rep. Mark Higley, R-Lowell, attempted to have the secretaries of state for Oregon and New Hampshire offer testimony about their elections, the Government Operations Committee approved the bill without that expert testimony.

Lefebvre said clerks testified “there is no way to tell, when an absentee ballot is mailed back, that we know it came from the person that [was] intended to vote that ballot.” She added that counting any ballots that are cast fraudulently amounts to”suppression of a vote.”
