Rashida Tlaib says opposition to critical race theory is ‘rooted in racism’

By Mary Margaret Olohan

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib said Thursday that opposition to Critical Race Theory is “rooted in racism.”

“Opposition to critical race theory is obviously rooted in racism and has just become the newest dog whistle for racists,” the Michigan Democrat tweeted Thursday, referring to a video in which Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark A. Milley defended Critical Race Theory to the House Armed Services Committee Wednesday.

CRT holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet it teaches people to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue “antiracism” through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies.

Proponents of CRT say the theory offers needed critiques of “how the social construction of race and institutionalized racism perpetuate a racial caste system that relegates people of color to the bottom tiers,” according to the American Bar Association. In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, elements of CRT have begun to appear in schools across the nation, identifiable through buzzwords such as “systemic racism,” “racial equity,” “anti-racism,” or “implicit bias.”

Like progressive gender ideology taught to students in sex education, elements of CRT are not only present in equity programs but have also seeped into other elements of public school programs.

At least 165 local and national groups have formed to combat CRT instruction in schools across the U.S., an NBC analysis found. Many of these groups were founded by parents appalled to discover what was being taught to their children. Their advocacy has launched small town CRT debates onto the national stage, spurring far-left activists and establishment media outlets to accuse conservatives of ignorance and in some cases, racism.

  1. For those who are interested on resisting on the local level, for instance in school board meetings such as last night in Barre of all places, a good explainer of CRT jargon is provided at https://cdn.substack.com/image/fetch/f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-437e-9518-adb32be77984.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff1ed6aa8-b865-422a-b860-1c8a1b2f6fd1_1324x2048.jpeg

It is a useful reference for pointing out the inherent racism and bias in CRT with objective language instead of the huggy squishy language preferred by those who can’t succeed on facts.

  2. CRT is best described by Bertrand Russel’s Teapot analogy, illustrating that the burden of proof that systemic racism exists lies upon the person making the claim.

“If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time.”

CRT, like many organized religious dogmas, is a clever method used throughout history to control a community. This is not to say that God doesn’t exist. I, for one certainly, cannot prove that one way or the other. But our Founders were wise indeed to add the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantying my right to self-determination in that regard.

Thus, if anyone believes that teapots are orbiting the sun and CRT theory predetermines racism, have at it. All I ask is that those ‘believers’ don’t waste their time postulating and pontificating at my expense. I have enough nonsense in my life as it is.

    • Nice try, Jay, but CRT throws reason out so the teapot analogy won’t work. Don’t you know that reason is part of systemic racism?

They don’t just want to throw out reason, they want to strangle it. Any reasonable person would know that CRT makes no sense and it doesn’t accord with the facts of everyday life or of history. That’s really why they want to throw out reason. They want blind belief.

To a hammer, everything looks like a nail. To a CRTist, everything looks like racism.

“The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters,” Francisco Goya, 1799.

Let’s destroy reason so we can build back better. Goya knew what that ‘build back better’ looks like.

  3. Not that it’s worth spending a second listening to what the anti-American Ratshita
has to say but I do have to totally disagree as “crt” is ray-cyst…. It’s all about All Whites being racist, which makes it white hate speech and thus RACIST.. Pushing the crt crap on the children should be a crime same as the covid trauma they were made to endure…

She is wrong about the background to the opposition,it’s not racism it’s the Opposition to Marxism.
