Poll: Vast majority of voters won’t back candidates who support gender transitions for minors

By Laurel Duggan

The vast majority of likely voters said they wouldn’t vote for a candidate who wants to allow minors to undergo gender transition procedures such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries, according to Thursday poll.

Among likely general election voters, 63.3% said they weren’t “likely at all” to vote for a candidate who supports the procedures, along with 9.4% who were somewhat less likely to vote for such a candidate, according to the Trafalgar Group and Convention of States Action poll. The survey comes amid a national reckoning over minors undergoing medical gender transitions, which are legal in most states and widely supported by Democrats.

Democratic respondents were far more likely than Republicans to choose candidates who support cross-sex procedures for minors: 57.3% of Democrats said they were more likely to choose such a candidates compared to 3.5% of Republicans, according to the poll.

“As with so many other election 2022 issues, the far left has gone too far in pushing unrestricted transgender procedures for any child at nearly any age without any restrictions. … Average Americans, regardless of party, have a sense that things are out of control and there are no adults in the room,” Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States, said in a statement shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation. “When the autopsy is done on this coming midterm election, experts will find that unrestricted wokeness has had a major impact on voting decisions. Citizens expect responsible, common-sense policies on issues, and politicians so focused on pandering can’t see this and will pay the price.”

For respondents who didn’t fall into the two main parties, 79.2% were unlikely to vote for candidates who support minors’ gender transitions and 20.7% were likely to support them.

Numerous other polls have found skepticism of transgender medical procedures for minors: 90% of Americans who have an opinion on the subject believe minors should not be allowed to undergo permanent gender alteration procedures, 65% of believe the transgender movement has gone too far in recommending sex change surgeries and drugs to minors and 78.7% think minors should be required to wait until they reach adulthood before they can undergo puberty blockers and permanent sex change procedures.

The poll surveyed 1,080 likely voters from Oct. 25 – 30 with a 2.9% margin of error.

The Democratic National Committee did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

  1. If the above were true, Zuckerman wouldn’t have a double-digit lead in the state like he does now. He’s all for gender transitions for minors. The guy is truly dysphoric.

  2. Welcome to the New Biomedical Security State…

Six years ago, I arrived on the shores of Mecca. I spent near a lifetime in Wisconsin talking about Vermont, a place I had only read about in books and magazines. The birthplace of cross-country skiing in the USA, the most liberal state in the Union, I thought I had earned the right to live out the rest of my life in paradise, the home state of Senators Bernie Sanders and Patrick Leahy. Six years ago, I thought of myself as a Progressive Democrat.

I had never heard of an Overton window, something that was shifting and expanding beneath my feet. I feel like I have pretty much stayed the same in my beliefs, but the left has gone to the extremes leaving me behind. That’s the Overton Window effect. I have always supported trans persons’ rights to pursue happiness without discrimination. But I never expected Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) posing as an educational children’s event in classrooms, libraries and even listed in Wikipedia.

I also never expected a bill like Vermont’s H.659 to be introduced by 10 Democrats in the state’s House of Representatives. I quote verbatim from the bill’s description: “This bill proposes to allow a minor who identifies as transgender to consent to receiving hormone blockers and other nonsurgical, gender-affirming care and treatment without requiring parental consent.”

That’s when I realized that I was no longer a Progressive Democrat. The bill was introduced by Representatives Tanya Vyhovsky of Essex, a Progressive/Democrat and Taylor Small of Winooski, a Progressive/Democrat, “the first out transgender person to serve in the Vermont Legislature,” as noted in her bio on the Vermont State website. The bill lists the following additional supporters:

    Elizabeth Burrows of Windsor, Democrat/Progressive
    Brian Cina of Burlington, Progressive/Democrat
    Selene Colburn of Burlington, Progressive
    Mari Cordes of Lincoln, Democrat
Kate Donnally of Hyde Park, Democrat
    Emma Mulvaney-Stanak of Burlington, Progressive/Democrat
    Barbara Rachelson of Burlington, Democrat
    Heather Surprenant of Barnard, Progressive/Democrat

Is it considered “hate” if I question the authority of a transgender person who identifies as a woman, yet will never be able to become a biological mother, to initiate laws that strip biological parents of their parental rights? Progressives opt for the state to provide access to “hormone blockers and other nonsurgical, gender-affirming care and treatment without requiring parental consent.”

How dare these so-called progressives to stand with the state and work to strip away fundamental parental rights? It might never be a loss to them but it’s an outright theft of rights from birthing mothers across the state of Vermont. They prefer to let the state decide on whatever psychological care and support children need while attempting to navigate through the some of the most challenging years of life during the onset of puberty.

We don’t let children buy guns or alcohol, work in factories or even get tattoos yet they are supposed to be free to decide to change their gender and affect their physical bodies with hormonal interventions simply based upon their own random wishes?

England’s National Health Service is reportedly warning doctors not to encourage children to change their name and pronouns after finding that most kids who think that they are transgender are merely going through a “phase.” The U.K. has actually closed its main pediatric gender clinic. And the National Health Service in the U.K. is now conceding the obvious—that many kids suddenly identifying as transgender are probably going through a phase, and shouldn’t be fast-tracked to chemical and surgical sterilization.

Of course people will be guilt-tripped into supporting this bill if it is couched as an effort to prevent teen suicide by LGBT+ youth. Life is full of hard choices and stressful experiences. A better bill might address teen bullying, and seek greater access to mental healthcare services in schools across the state. Medical intervention enforced by the state is not a solution. This is the same logic that thinks drag queen story time promotes greater literacy among children.

Rep. Vyhovsky said. “I think it’s really critically important that we look at every piece of policy through an equity lens.” Meanwhile, schools in Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, and Washington state just canceled Halloween celebrations in the name of “equity” and concerns about “marginalized” students.

    • An illusion of Mecca to the reality of Babylon – that is Vermont. Recognizing and coming to accept that pure evil exists and how it operates is the first step. The next is realizing the authority humanity has to cast evil back into the abyss from which it came. Vermont is a failed State. Those in power or seeking power govern as a belligerent, illegitimate occupation. Other New England States will offer no help or assistance as they too are collapsing. All are under foreign influence and control. New Hampshire may be the only New England State with a faint American heartbeat.

    • But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. Luke 23:28

For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!’ Luke 23:29

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. Luke 23:34

      • Isiah 63: Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
2 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?
3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
5 And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

6 And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

  3. Parents, your kids are your responsibility, if they are being taught behind closed doors in
he schools and they are telling ” your ” children not to tell their parents what’s being taught,
    what’s that telling you………………

Kids should be kids, not guinea pigs for an agenda…….. tar & feathers come to mind for
those involved, it would only take a few, or just vote them out they’ll soon understand !!
