Poll: 1 In 5 Americans blame global warming for cold winter weather

By Michael Bastasch

Nearly one-fifth of Americans blamed global warming for “colder than usual” winter weather this season, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday.

Forty-three percent of Americans surveyed said temperatures where they live were colder than normal, with 19 percent blaming global warming for colder weather. However, 23 percent said the cold was due to “natural variation,” Gallup found.

February saw colder-than-normal average temperatures for the lower 48 U.S. states. Late January saw all-time cold records broken across the Midwest and Great Plains under a blanket of Arctic air.

Fourteen percent of Americans blamed global warming for warmer-than-normal winter temperatures, according to Gallup. Only 5 percent said warmer local temperatures were due to natural factors.

“Regardless of their perceptions of local temperatures, about a third of residents in each of the four regions attributes the unusual winter temperatures where they live to human-induced climate change,” Gallup reported.

That’s not surprising given the rush to tie all extreme weather, from heat waves to hurricanes to snowstorms — to global warming. This winter, in fact, saw a rush to tie frigid Midwest temperatures to global warming.

February saw colder-than-normal average temperatures for the lower 48 U.S. states. Late January saw all-time cold records broken across the Midwest and Great Plains under a blanket of Arctic air.

Many media outlets used the impending cold to promote a bizarre theory linking extreme cold to man-made global warming. The idea it’s melting Arctic Sea ice causes the circumpolar vortex to weaken and more easily spill freezing air into the midlatitudes.

However, many scientists, including state climatologists, think that theory is flawed. In fact, scientific assessments don’t put much weight behind this theory, and instead see extreme cold outbreaks as getting weaker and less frequent.

“Frankly, it is a stretch to make that link,” Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, said in January.

“There is always cold air over the Arctic in the polar night and the question is whether it sits there or breaks out,” Trenberth said. “So all this is in the realm of weather. Not climate.”

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that while February’s temperature was below normal, this winter as a whole has been above normal.

“Above-average winter temperatures were observed across much of the eastern half of the U.S. and also across parts of the Deep South,” NOAA reported of winter temperatures.

Thirty-six percent of Americans said they experienced a typical winter while 20 percent said it was warmer than normal, according to the poll.

A total of 33 percent of Americans blamed global warming for either warmer or colder winter weather. Gallup conducted its poll in early March, before a “bomb cyclone” resulted in widespread flooding throughout the Midwest.

  1. Weather is propaganda. The word “normal” implies it is supposed to be unchanging, though it is forever changing. Weather reports could say “average” temperature for the season, but they do not. They say it is higher or lower than “normal” for the date.
These figures are based on 150 years or so of data, not forever, and it is well established that there have been much warmer and cooler periods in recorded history.
They don’t call it “global warming” anymore either, just “climate change”, as if it can only be caused by human activity, and they can’t admit it is cooling. “Polar vortex” is just another excuse for the failed theory.
There is a lot of activity to deliberately alter the atmosphere, e.g. “stratospheric aerosol injection” a/k/a chemtrails, which anybody who watches the sky can see. I’m old enough to remember when jets made very short trails, if any.
Could be this is an advanced weapons system, for example to create greater capacitance between the earth and sky? Perhaps the recent insane “wildfires” in California, which spread quickly, and selectively destroyed houses and melted mag wheels on cars, and burned trees from the inside out, were done this way.
Satellite or airplane mounted terawatt ultraviolet lasers could create a conductive path for this charge, precisely targeting only specific houses, leaving other trees and houses untouched, at lightning speed.
Seems more likely than any “natural” explanation. Scary though.
Solar activity is the real driver of climate, and the lack of sunspots now indicates we are in a cooling period. Stock up that wood pile!

  2. Let me get thins straight, it’s March 22, it’s snowing and the temp. is 20 degrees, and we blame global warming????????????? I’m confused.

  3. Sounds like we have a lot of easily fooled fools. Gorebull warming is a scam to control
people and enrich other wise worthless non producers, ie: the Gore in gorebull…I don’t
like the cold this winter but I’m totally certain the Government can’t do squat about it.
