New Hampshire is set to receive $25 million from the Federal Communication Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund. New Hampshire also received $194 million in funding through the American Rescue Plan. Some of that funding can be used by cities and counties to expand broadband access.
“In conclusion, because this bill contains urgently needed funds for Vermonters, I am allowing it to become law. But the Legislature should take note that I will not support any additional, unnecessary, or unwise use of ARPA or ESSER funding.”
What is pitiful about this ongoing policy debate is that it willfully ignores a demonstrably superior path of personal responsibility, informed patient choice, provider competition, price transparency, less third party payment, diminished regulation, liability restraint and outcome accountability.

Under the pre-coronavirus CBO baseline, federal debt held by the public had been expected to rise from $16.8 trillion in 2019 to $31.3 trillion by 2030, or 79 percent of GDP to 98 percent. According to Edwards’ calculation, debt will rise to $37.2 trillion by 2030 or 116 percent of GDP.
Vermont’s 2020 state budget was $6 billion. So, if we are determined to keep the same level of services and programs in 2021, how can we do it given the projected loss of $596 million in revenues?
