Vermont ANR issuing big fines to salvage yards

The Agency of Natural Resources has fined two salvage companies in the past two months for failing to keep up with state permitting and environmental regulations. Fines on the small local businesses total just shy of $35,000 in combined penalties.

Roper: Allowing illegal votes is voter suppression

Allowing an ineligible voter to cast a ballot cancels out the vote of a legal voter, effectually erasing that legal voter’s vote. The outcome is the same as if the legal voter had been physically blocked from entering the polling place. This is unacceptable.

The Heritage Foundation released a new edition of its voter fraud database. The database documents 1,071 instances of voter fraud spanning 47 states, including 938 criminal convictions.

Bipartisan panel, including elected Democrats, dedicated to fighting voter fraud

Instead of arguing whether voter fraud was real, the commissioners focused on how to prevent voter fraud, verifying voter rolls to ensure only eligible voters are registered, increasing funding for new voting machines, and ways to increase voter participation.

State officials continue stripping law enforcement of anti-fraud tool

Attorney General TJ Donovan says biometric photo reading software used by the DMV should remain suspended because it violates state law. The move may make more Vermonters vulnerable to fraud, however.

Bipartisan White House voter fraud commission begins work

One tool at the commission’s disposal is a database that compiles 1,071 cases of proven instances of voter fraud across the United States, the bulk of them prosecuted since 2000. Of those cases, 938 ended in a criminal conviction.

Unemployment insurance rates drop, definition of ‘contractor’ remains hazy

The Vermont Department of Labor announced that the state unemployment insurance tax will be lower for upcoming filings. The change is unlikely to satisfy employers who are forced to cover independent contractors as well as employees.
