Poll: Vermonters overwhelmingly support voter ID, distrust voting by absentee ballot

A recent poll on Vermont’s voting preferences reveals a range of attitudes that run counter to election policies in the state — most notably, voters overwhelmingly think an ID should be required for casting a vote, and more than half say election officials can’t verify who is filling out absentee ballots.

Roper: Sack the plastic bag ban for the public good

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vermont Legislature passed a law banning the use of plastic bags at retail stores beginning in July 2020. Whether or not you agreed with that decision before health and safety concerns took center spotlight, today this policy is indefensible.

Vermont’s state revenue down 57% for the month of April

April is the first full month of revenue collections since a state of emergency was declared by Gov. Scott, and the subsequent mitigation “Stay Home Stay Safe” order was issued on March 24. April revenues collected were predictably and dramatically under the consensus forecast for the month.
