John Klar: Vermont’s frenzied wealth transfer from taxpayers to state employees

Thanks to COVID, this ongoing pilfering is now exposed, as is Vermont’s broader economic vulnerability in the event of national downturn. Vermonters were some of the most independent people in America in 1929, but now are reduced to groveling servitude before legislative lords and out-of-state millionaires.

Guv pledges zero emissions for trucks, buses; UVM dings online students $2,600 for facilities

Gov. Phil Scott announced that Vermont has joined 15 states and the District of Columbia in signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that calls for 100% of all new medium- and heavy-duty vehicle sales to be zero emission vehicles by 2050.

Roper: Someone did a cost-benefit analysis of climate policy, just not Vermont

Vermont’s GWSA legislation will go back to the Vermont House of Representatives for another look when lawmakers return in late August. Before they make it law, they should do the kind of cost-benefit analysis New Zealand did.

Montpelier City Council, Klar say partisan politics at work over street murals

“I’m very uncomfortable with printing an American flag on the ground,” Mayor Watson said. “I know it’s not a cloth flag but nonetheless with the U.S. flag code not allowing the flag to touch the ground it just really rubs me the wrong way.”

LA Times article calls to cancel, replace ‘Star-Spangled Banner’

LA Times contributor Jody Rosen cited “viral posts on social media” which said the anthem is racist, then argued it is aesthetically a bad song in the article. Rosen concluded saying the message of “Lean on Me” can be a foundation for a “decent” society.
