Cuomo blames ‘federal guidance’ for New York Health Department undercounting nursing home deaths

Cuomo’s administration revealed on Thursday that at least 12,743 nursing home residents had died from COVID-19 as of Jan. 19, a figure nearly 50% larger than the official tally of 8,505 deaths reported by the New York State Department of Health that day.

Roper: Push is on to expand Vermont sales tax to services

The Vermont Tax Structure Commission wants to expand Vermont’s 6% sales tax — currently limited to goods and a few singled-out services such as ski rentals — to everything but health care, and to reduce the overall rate to 3.6%. This is a terrible proposal.
