VFA letter to Gov. Scott: Veto H.89 and S.37 for the sake of minors

If you sign H.89 and S.37, Vermont will protect “any person” in any “act or omission” regarding any minor without the direct care of their parents. H.89 and S.37 will shield a gender-affirming system that will leave minors in harm’s way.

Advocates ask legislators to add students to discrimination and harassment reform bill

The bill, S.103, passed in the Senate late last month and is moving through the House. Its core goal is to get rid of the existing legal requirement that harassment or discrimination must be “severe or pervasive” to be considered unlawful.

Gov. Phil cott needs 11 senators to vote to sustain his veto of S.5. He can count on all seven Republicans and three Democrats: Bobby Starr (D-Orleans), Dick Mazza (D-Grand Isle), and Irene Wrenner (D-Chittenden North). That makes 10. He needs one more.

Legislative lawyer tells lawmakers S.5 will not ‘bind’ future lawmakers on policy
