House passes universal school breakfast plus study committee to include lunches

The House on Tuesday passed a bill on second reading that would initiate a universal school breakfast program as well as a study on potentially including lunches. Estimates for the cost for one year are at least $29 million.

Driven by rising oil prices, Vermonters burn more wood

According to the Vermont Department of Public Service, the price of heating oil has risen 25.1% between February and March. Many Vermonters are burning wood to supplement their heating because wood is cheaper.

The report shows that municipalities in the past six years have generated $685 million in development, created nearly 4,000 jobs, and witnessed a 68% rise in property tax revenue for the Education Fund.

The Chittenden County Republican Committee is sponsoring a Republican Congressional Candidate Forum at the Milton Grange on Saturday, May 14 at 8:30 am. The forum will feature U.S. Senate candidates Gerald Malloy and Christina Nolan, and U.S. House candidates Ericka Redic and Anya Tynio.

No more Pledge of Allegiance for Springfield Planning Commission

The vote was 4-1 with only Beth Gray voting in opposition. The effort to ban the Pledge was led by Planning Commissioner Jules O’Guin, who read aloud a statement she had written for the occasion.

Companion bills aimed at curbing Vermont’s rental housing shortage

The S.210 rental housing bill would require an upfront state commitment of $20.4 million in ARPA funding to get up and running and subsequently would receive funding through the new revenue stream linked to the annual registry fee. ARPA funding also comes into play for S.226.
