Post-permit delays have crippled the ability of our country to build. Once a permit has been issued, the appeals begin. The appellants ask for and obtain restraining orders to stop construction. At almost no cost to themselves, anyone can impose the enormous cost of infrastructure delay on the builders and on the country.

A judge on Monday ruled that a case alleging voter fraud in a vote to keep Windham Elementary School open may continue, the Brattleboro Reformer reported.

Shelburne OKs bonuses for police retention, recruitment

Police Chief Mike Thomas said the program could bring the department back to full staffing levels and help reduce overtime hours for current officers and dispatchers. The department would ideally have between 12 and 15 officers, he said, but right now has only five full-time officers.

New Hampshire to scrutinize municipalities that attempt to shift to renewable energy

The review will look at whether municipalities have the authority to “take any action that restricts or prohibits the types or fuel sources of energy production which may be used, delivered, converted, or supplied to customers.” Several communities have set “net-zero” carbon reduction goals that include a shift to reliance on renewable energies.

A 14-year-old Essex boy was cited and released Sunday, July 10, after Essex police say that on July 8 he threatened adults on a bike path with a baseball bat, demanding their cellphones and passcodes. He struck a woman with the bat after she didn’t immediately comply.

Vermont adopts 9-8-8 phone number for mental health support and crisis

Starting July 16, Vermont is launching the 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Callers will be immediately connected to compassionate, caring counselors who are trained to provide support for individuals experiencing everything from emotional distress to a mental health crisis.
