Short-term Vermont loan program can help struggling businesses

Act 183 will send $19 million of the state’s American Rescue Plan Act funding to eligible businesses, including sole-propietors and not-for-profits, financial aid as they continue to recoup economic harm related to the pandemic. Applicants can receive up to $350,000.

Learning loss greater in school districts that stayed remote longer, study shows

K-12 school districts who stayed with remote learning the longest during the pandemic saw a 13% sharper drop in learning losses than schools that returned to in-person learning sooner, according to study by a Brown University economist Emily Oster.

Massachusetts activates 125 National Guard members to support 50 illegal migrants in Martha’s Vineyard

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent the migrants to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday as part of the state’s program transporting illegal migrants to sanctuary cities. Massachusetts is now activating its National Guard and offering to transport the migrants to Joint Base Cape Cod.

Williston cop’s drug search of NY car gets him decertified

According to a legal agreement between Travis Trybulski and the State of Vermont, the incident involved his decision to stop and search for drugs (with the owner’s approval) a car with New York license plates. The decertification vote, which bars Trybulski from working as a cop in Vermont, was nearly unanimous.
