Nuclear energy advocate discusses how to be an active voice in the community

Meredith Angwin has been an advocate for nuclear power for a long time. She has testified on behalf of Vermont Yankee at hearings in Montpelier and around the state, not as a lobbyist, but as a private citizen during the public comment part of various hearings.

While nuclear power is not likely coming to Vermont, Angwin is working hard to ensure that all currently operating nuclear power plants remain open.

In this episode of Vote for Vermont, co-hosts Pat McDonald and Ben Kinsley interview Angwin about sustainable clean energy trends across the country and about how to be come an advocate in the community, no matter the issue.

According to Angwin, there are 100 open plants in the U.S. and approximately 400 worldwide. In addition, currently in the U.S. 60 percent of low carbon energy comes from nuclear plants, 20 percent from hydro, and 20 percent from a combination of wind solar and biomass.

Angwin’s work led her to write a book about how to become an advocate for energy or any other issue that ignites one’s personal passion.
