Liz Cheney fires back after Bernie Sanders angered over her attack on socialism

By Molly Prince

Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney fired back Friday after Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders mocked the congresswoman for criticizing socialism.

While giving a speech Thursday to nominate Republican California Rep. Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House, Cheney emphasized the importance of standing in opposition to “the fraud of socialism” that Democrats would supposedly carry out if allowed.

Sanders, a self-proclaimed Democratic socialist, seemingly took umbrage with her attack on his political ideology.

“Rep. Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney, yesterday attacked ‘the fraud of socialism.’ Really?” Sanders tweeted. “I wasn’t aware that it was ‘socialism’ that lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and got us into a horrific war that we should never have started.”

“Yes, [Sen. Sanders], son of Eli Sanders socialism is a fraud,” Cheney responded. “It steals power from the people [and] gives it to the government, crushes human freedom [and] initiative [and] devastates economies (ask the Venezuelans).”

“[By the way] – Your Dick Cheney history is as defective as your economic policy,” the Wyoming congresswoman continued.

Cheney was elected as the Republican conference chair in November, making her the party’s third-ranking member and the only female in the party to hold a leadership position.

  1. The bottom line is that The Bern should read the 85 Fed papers and get a history lesson. Interesting noting the intelligence of our Founding Fathers and older favorites: Newton, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Gallo, Mozart, Beethoven, Voltaire, Rembrandt, Plato, and of late-Einstein, Tesla & Edison etc, most with limited educational means as today. There was something in the air to produce people like this. Now with the “modern educational system people like the Bern, Piglosi, Slimy Schummer et al are a product seeking to govern this country. But those mentioned didn’t have the gov control their lives and finances. That was freedom and the results are obvious.

  2. Bernie’s strategy in selling his pathetic socialist tripe has been to rabble rouse the unthinking lemmings into believing that his anger and arrogance makes him right. And predictably the unthinking lemmings line up to digest and regurgitate it like dutiful useful idiots.

  3. There is a truth not universally acknowledged today that should be.

Despite Plymouth Colony’s newly learned skills; how to grow corn, catch fish, gather nuts and berries; the commonwealth wasn’t producing enough food to survive. In 1623 its colonists determined to embark on an experiment, an innovation necessitated by a ‘starving time’.

Little did they realize their mutual agreement to establish autonomy through private property, the unique convention that ultimately saved their individual and collective souls, would fertilize seeds of Independence in America with the recognition that everyone is endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable and individual rights.

In fact, recent research into Self-Determination Theory “… finds a more positive relation between autonomy and collectivistic attitudes than between autonomy and individualistic attitudes.”

Socialism’s Paradox: While the pursuit of societal perfection will always be just beyond reach, the surest and most expeditious path to the egalitarian utopia sought by the impatience of our youth is not Democratic Socialism (‘a rose by any other name would smell as sweet’), but the governance of the United States Constitutional Republic designed specifically to insure individual free market autonomy.

‘We hold these truths to be self evident, ……’

    • In other words, when allowed to achieve and control wealth by virtue of intrinsic motivation, individuals are more inclined to share their wealth than they are when forced to share through extrinsic (punitive) motivations.

      • “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” Vladimir Lenin

The solution to the misguided perception of ‘democratic socialism’ is to teach the precepts of America’s ellegant Republic in our school system. But as long as the monopoly’s boot remains on the neck of its taxpayers, parents and students, this curricula is likely not to occur.

The study of Federalist Paper #10, James Madison’s cautionary ‘Safeguard Against Domestic Faction and Insurrection’, should be required study in our high schools.

        • In fact they should study all 85 Fed Papers, Alexander Hamilton wrote many, too bad he lost in the gun duel with Arron Burr July 11, 1804 in NJ

          • It’s too bad they had the duel at all.

Aaron Burr was not the boogey man revisionist history taught us in the public school monopoly. And Hamilton was a major supporter of a powerful federal government over the States.

The Founder’s, recognizing these differences of opinion created a constitutional balance of power that turns out to be one of the most important governance features setting the American system apart, for example, from European parliamentary systems.

Everyone should read Mike Lee’s latest book – Written Out of History.

Aaron Burr, when he was Thomas Jefferson’s vice president, prevented Jefferson from the same presidential over-reach that is common today. As it turned out, Jefferson became quite the big government tyrant. He considered having the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS impeached for protecting Burr’s due process.

By the by…. This you-tube clip of the late Justice Scalia testifying before the House Judicial Committee is a must see.

    • Here’s a web site that people should find very interesting, about the history of New England going back into the 1600’s. Many stories, I’ve copied over 200. Some articles parallel your comment knowledge. Good readings when getting VT Cabin Fever.
      http://www.newenglandhistoricalsociety.com/
You can surf around and keep reading. It’s like a Christmas tree, start on the main trunk, that leads to a branch of info, then to another branch until you searched the whole tree. A great history lesson.

      • More to the point, consider William Bradford’s remarks as Governor of Plymouth Plantation.

““The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s and other ancients applauded by some of later times; that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this community (so far as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort.”

        http://historyofmassachusetts.org/plymouth-colony-economy/

In short, the Pilgrim’s democratic socialism was found to breed confusion, discontent, and retard employment.

Does this sound familiar in today’s Vermont?

        • Lenin’s “seed” is our education/indoctrination process in the US and VT in particular. Undoing all this good feeling around “vote for me and I’ll give you everything” our kids and the general population have been marinating in since the Vietnam war protest days that really exploded during the Obama Years has done incalculable damage to our Founding Principles. If your kids heard nothing but that at home and at school how could one possibly want to sign into hard work and initiative? Order up your life on Alexa and binge watch more propaganda.

And why does Bernie want to drag us into this continually failing ideology? Power and authority to punish the successful, pure and simple.

  4. Bernie knows Brattleboro quite well. There’s a “Retreat” there where he might get an attitude adjustment and thank Capitalism for everything he’s got and allowed to do. Why force Socialism onto the populace, jealously in that he doesn’t want others to be able to achieve success? How does one get brain washed to embrace such a decrepit, corrupt, controlling, power crazed governmental stance?

”Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.” – Plato

  5. If old Bern believes all of the bologna coming out of his mouth, he should give away a couple of his ill gotten houses. You only need one house right Bern? Greedy millionahs…

  6. Socialist Sanders, doesn’t want anyone steeping on his BS rhetoric and all its fallacies
he promotes as he may look like an idiot !!

Liz Cheney, please show a little compassion towards this “Old Fool ” he wants to be the first
    Socialist President of the US.

  7. That’s the way the liberal socialist are. They can say whatever they want about Trump or anyone that disagrees with them but don’t talk against them.
Bernie is nothing but a big mouth. He rants and raves and people listen to his crap but what has he ever accomplished as a Senator.. NOTHING

    • Au contraire, Bernie’s angry socialist political have made him very rich (and kept his wife out of jail.) And, he did name two post offices. That’s a career accomplishment right there.

      • Good point Amy. He’s made himself a millionaire as a politician but what has he done for Vermont or his Country? I can’t think of any bill that he’s sponsored that has ever passed. He’s nothing but a pied piper. .

      • Socialism works for Bernie!! It works for Fidel and Raoul, too. But it doesn’t work for ‘the people’. And when Bernie retires from the Senate, think of the great pay check he will still pull in. All for doing nothing but shooting of his mouth on Socialist ideologies. Bernie has made a fool out of Vermonters (so has Leahy… a story for another day) But they asked for it.
