Letters to legislators: Letter to the House re: S.4 (S.30)

This is part of TNR’s Letters to Legislators Series.

Dear legislators,

It is now imperative that you sustain the Governor’s veto of S.4 (formerly S.30). Since 2013, a partisan “war” on lawful gun owning citizens has been waged in Montpelier.

This bill is yet another in a long line of almost seventy (70) anti-firearm rights bills in the last five (5) sessions, that have sought to completely undermine Article 16 of the Vermont Constitution through incrementalism.

The Vermont Constitution states that laws be created for the purpose of protecting Vermonters, yet these anti-gun rights bills actively seek out to disarm lawful Vermonters, obliterate due process, and publicly demonize lawful citizens who do not wish to be subjugated by the government.

Article 1 of the Vermont Constitution states; that Vermonters are independent, not dependent, on government; that Vermonters have the unalienable rights to defend life and liberty, and to possess and protect their property; and lastly to obtain happiness and safety.

S.4 restricts Vermonter’s unalienable right to defend their life (or the lives of others), delays when Vermonters can protect themselves; and limits Vermonter’s safety by restriction of where they may lawfully carry firearms.

Article 6 of the Vermont Constitution states that public officers are servants of the people, yet the sponsors and legislators who support these anti-rights bills, take their direction from the testimony of national anti-gun lobbyists, and their campaign money from out-of-state donors.

S.4 further tramples on the rights of firearm owners in Vermont at the behest of national groups.

Article 7 of the Vermont Constitution states that government is, or ought to be, instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security of the people (Vermonters) and not for the particular emolument or advantage of any single person, family, or set of persons, who are a part only of that community, much less for persons and organizations who are NOT part of that community (They are NOT Vermont residents!) Just because Michael Bloomberg funds the largest lobbying firm in Vermont, shouldn’t give him control over how Vermonters live their lives.

Gun Sense Vermont (a chapter of Bloomberg’s national Moms Demand) and Bloomberg’s Everytown lobby AGAINST Vermonters EVERY year and our state becomes more dangerous each year. In 2013 Vermont was the SAFEST STATE in the nation. Gun control bill after gun control bill have been passed into law year after year. Vermont has dropped to the FOURTH safest state in the nation. Gun control is HARMING Vermonters.

As if disarming the citizens isn’t enough for these same legislators, they also seek to dismantle our police force (S.68), leave our children defenseless (S.63) and in an effort to limit the effectiveness of the police, they changed the Justifiable homicide law to prohibit the citizenry from protecting strangers from crime (H.145).

This bill S.4 is just another nail in Vermont’s coffin.

From safest state to fourth place in eight years. Vermont is headed in the wrong direction.

Please Vote NO to S.4 and S.30, the Veto Override Bill.

Vice President, Gun Owners of Vermont

  1. A thirty-day waiting period to purchase a firearm, and this is supposed to prevent suicides and domestic abuse. What about the woman who has a restraining order on someone who is still threating her, but she has to wait 30 days to purchase a firearm and during that period gets assaulted or killed by that person? The blood is on the politicians hands that passed this crap.

Another point, what if you already own a gun or several guns as many people do. Why should a 30 day waiting period apply? If they have any bad intentions and they already own a weapon and don’t need to buy one.

This isn’t about safety, it’s about POWER & CONTROL

      • Not about common sense, it’s about pushing the agenda. They know exactly what they are doing. Just like with conditioning people to obey and wear masks they are conditioning the sheeple to voluntarily give up their rights. When it gets to the point that now even the sheeple don’t like wat they are doing have no right to stop them. They already gave their rights away.

    • Exactly the people who have the most important things to say are shunned or quieted and the people who are mentally ill are running the country it’s so sad to see such a decline in civil liberties and freedoms. I am ready to do something about this but every time I say something I get shut down, by people who only care when they are being effected by something and apparently if you are anything other then what the tyrannical phcycotic government bullies want you are screwed. They make you look as though you are an antisemitic, racist , firearm toting redneck supremacist when that is the farthest from the truth. How do you conquer people? by dividing them it’s the flawless system they use in prisons. They have divided people into groups such as black or white, anti gun, pro gun, antisemitic or Jewish, anti vax or gullable, all of this grouping is making everyone forget that the government is who we should be dividing from. If I wasn’t constantly called a conspiracy theorist any time I said anything and people would just do the research they would see what is really happening here but I get more eyerolls a day then I blink.

  2. Letters to legislators: Letter to the House re: S.4 (S.30)

Please continue your Letters to the Legislators. I found the above letter very helpful.

  3. What are the ‘facts’ of this bill. Does it mean someone who doesn’t even actually know a person who owns a firearm — can claim they are a danger to the local or state police with no evidence other then their say-so, and the police will then break down the doors to get the persons weapons?

  4. I live in Rutland County, the most conservative county in the state. Our two Republican Senators have voted against this awful bill, and most of our Representatives have as well. The one’s who haven’t, I can write, and urge them to vote against this travesty. All well and good, but that leaves all the other clueless progressive /liberal/ democrat senators and representatives in the other counties who simply ignore what I have to say because I’m not in their district or county and they theoretically don’t represent me, or will take a modicum of time to verbally flip me off with a curt response for the same reasons–silently voicing their contempt for a Vermonter who would dare to question them. The Sergeants of Arms in the Senate and the House will pass on a message of “Vote No, or Yes” on a particular bill, as the case may be, to the members, but those messages are also basically ignored.
And I’m pretty sure they can’t be bothered to read TNR, but if they do, they ignore these writings as well.
Suggestions as to how to reach these fools cheerfully accepted…

    • You’re not going to reach them, carpetbaggers could care less about you or me. The answer is to vote them out of office. Keep the words coming and share them with your friends and nieghbors. There are lots of new readers here. I don’t beleive they like $5.00 a gallon gas and heating oil or propane. The democrats even hurt other democrats and people who are barely making it. We need to vote them out. Remember Mitzi from Grand Isle? mThey got sick of her and she’s not harming them any more. Now, more need to go. Most of them aren’t Vermonters they’re carpetbaggers here to boast their fgo at our expense. TAKE BACK VERMONT from the progressive carpetbaggers. Remember in November!
