Letters to legislators: HR 1 will encourage voter fraud, leave voter registration rolls unreliable

Editor’s note: This is part of TNR’s Letters to Legislators Series.

Dear Senators Leahy and Sanders of Vermont:

I spent a decade of my working life as a hospital chaplain. My duties included on-call availability, chaplain’s care of patients and in- hospital presence. Along with that I was on the hospital’s ethics committee which met once a month to discuss issues that came up. We also met on an emergency basis when cases arose that required some expertise on ethical issues. It is not an exaggeration to say that we were consulted on life and death issues.

I attended a series of conferences at Johns Hopkins Medical School about ethics. I am not a doctor, however I did provide support for the medical staff, often delving into rather complex medical/ethical problems, and assisting physicians and offering insights into whatever dilemma they were facing.

Informed consent has a great impact on how medical care is practiced. An assessment has to be made by the medical staff about the patient’s ability to understand the information being provided to them. Do they understand the implications of the treatment being offered, and if they don’t, who can assist them in that effort? Sometimes I was brought in with the doctor to “translate” the medical information into common English, then assist the patient as a sounding board to sort through the implications of the various pathways available to them.

In a larger sense, informed consent is vital to the individual because it is connected to autonomy. The individual makes the decisions and choices about their health care because it affects them most. The professionals provide the information that applies, then it’s up to the person to decide. I saw many instances of patients provided with good medical information, assisted and supported by families and friends, make good, reasonable, well thought out decisions about their future. We live in an uncertain world, in tumultuous times, and to see people asserting their own dignity and personal sovereignty in the face of difficult choices strengthened my respect for humanity.

This relates to the idea of personal sovereignty. Here in the United States of America, we have guarantees of our own rights and individual freedoms in the Constitution. When the 13 colonies became the United States of America, sovereignty over the people was transferred away from the King of England to the individual citizen. The citizen then asserted their authority by voting in free and fair elections. Candidates campaigned for votes in these elections and the citizen used their own capacity and intellect to judge the merits of various pathways offered. In the mind of the voter, personal interest was balanced by long-term implications. Government was strengthened and protected because of this balance.

The campaign and election process was a form of informed consent, with voters provided with adequate information and then making decisions on issues that would impact their own lives. I speak here of the larger idea of politics in the past tense because things have changed greatly.

As an informed Vermont voter, I am concerned about the current House Bill HR 1, which according to congress.gov, “This bill addresses voter access, election integrity, election security, political spending, and ethics for the three branches of government.” Specifically, the bill expands voter registration and voting access and limits removing voters from voter rolls.”

This description is garbage. In fact, this legislation widely expands mail-in-voting, forbids voter identification rules, and limits states’ attempts to keep their voter registration rolls up to date. All of these greatly undermine election integrity. Concerns remain about the 2020 election, with hundreds of affidavits sworn (Fox News, Nov 18, “GOP obtains over 900 affidavits highlighting voting irregularities”) from people witnessing problems in the vote counting process that undermine election integrity. Sworn affidavits are evidence in a court of law.

Presently the U.S. Senate is considering the HR 1 bill. Please vote against this legislation for the good of your constituents. This bill will encourage voter fraud, leave voter registration rolls unreliable, and weaken our democracy. It undermines the personal sovereignty of the individual Vermont voter. I offer these thoughts in keeping with the ethical premise of informed consent. In other words, perhaps you have not seriously looked at and considered the huge problems with this bill. Here’s hoping you will look and vote against it!

  1. I agree that out-of-state students should not be allowed to vote in any state except their own state. Most of them do vote in their own state by absent ballot. but then also vote in the state they are going to college in.. We have voting laws here in Vermont but the damn socialist legislators are not following the Vermont laws. They are making up their own as they go along. If they don’t like something they make new laws. Vermont has a Vermont Constitutional law that we have the right for conceal carry, The socialist legislators don’t like that. they don’t like guns.
No illegals should be allowed to vote at all unless they become an American citizen. They shouldn’t get Social Security either. They don’t work and pay/paid into it.
This state and our country need to have in-person voting and be required to show an ID. As long as I can walk I will do in-person voting. I don’t care if I have to drag myself to the voting place. No ONE neither Condos, Scott, or even creepy joe will deny me my Constitutional right to vote in person.

  2. Some how we need to stop the demise of out voting system. VT politician’s are doing everything they can to support the radical left and not the people of Vermont including supposed Republican Governor Scott. I have watched the slow demise of VT over the past 20 years. Manufacturing has all but diminished thanks to millionaire Bernie hating big companies that is unless he has ties to them. I am contemplating how much longer I will stay in Vermont because it is quickly becoming Bernie’s socialist/ communist state. Time to vote them all out and start over fresh.

  3. If writing, emailing or any contact method to Leaky Leahy or the Bern, you’ll get a generic answer mostly from a staffer. Ask a straight forward Q and the return will be all around the barn answer, but will not address your question. Then they say “thank you for writing or phoning. They are in office and don’t give a hoot. This has been verified by many people and over time.

The saying goes, “if you can’t dazzle them with .brilliance, baffle them with BS”, the politician’s motto.

    • I can verify that and I added very specific questions that I wanted addressed they didn’t even acknowledge that there were questions let alone answer them, in fact they touted what I doubted.

These people are not listening to us and it’s time that we did something about it.

They’ve already attacked the only weapon we ever really had which was voting; they attacked it in the 2020 election and now they’re attacking it in the legislation making it near impossible to get rid of these people who are absolutely horrible for the United States of America.

What’s the price of gas now? In a month, A year? 2nd amendment, 1st amendment…

I know I’m spending an awful lot of time watching every level of government that controls anything I do or care about and every day it makes me more frustrated.

1.9 trillion dollars and only 9% of that is used for covid?

It’s like watching a drug addict kill themselves over time.

  4. Voter List Manipulation

    https://www.windtaskforce.org/profiles/blogs/here-is-a-write-up-about-a-voting-irregularity-that-led-to-many

    Dem/Progs likely know:

    – Illegals, with and without documents, are not allowed to vote, per US Constitution.
    – Legal US residents (who are not citizens), with green cards, are also not allowed to vote, per US Constitution.

Dem/Progs aim to have EVERYONE VOTE, dead or alive, a la Tracy Adams in Georgia.

To make that happen, Dem/Progs in Georgia, or any other state, want “inclusive” registered voter lists.

Vermont Secretary of State Condos, and his counterparts in other states, should focus on registered voter lists and loose-goosy, leftist, voting “requirements”

In Democrat-controlled Vermont cities and towns, feeding fake ballots (stuffing the ballot box) is a common practice, as is feeding the same ballot multiple times, as was done in Georgia counting centers which, unbeknownst to counting folks, were recorded ON VIDEO.

Manipulating voter lists provides corrupt election officials more names to “play” with, to enhance Democrat power and command/control.

    NOTE:
Some “unlikely” voters would show up to vote in person.

    You already voted.
How could that be I never received a ballot?
Our records show you did. Here is a spare ballot.
Just sign this affidavit, so we can “classify” you for the next time.

    1) Not deleting dead people
    2) Not deleting people who moved to another state
    3) Enabling non-citizens and illegal aliens to vote (with documents, or not)
    4) Enabling temporary residents to vote, even if they would reside less time in state than required by law. That requirement should be at least one year to avoid shenanigans
    5) Enabling convicted felons to vote (in jail, on parole, or not)
    6) Enabling under-age people to vote
    7) Enabling feeble-minded people in nursing homes to “vote”, by “proxies” filling in their ballots, without even telling them
    8) Enabling out-of-state students, citizen or not, to vote; they should vote in their own state, AT ALL TIMES, NO EXCUSE.
    9) Enabling “motor voting” to ALL COMERS, documented or not.
    10) Enabling ballot drop off boxes that are unsupervised 24/7, not monitored by video, a major fraud opportunity
    11) Enabling indiscriminate mail-in voting (taking advantage of COVID conditions), a major fraud opportunity, as President Carter predicted a few decades ago

NOTE: The Legislature of New Hampshire became Republican, because the “student vote” was absent. They likely voted in their own states as well; “every vote counts”.
