Letter: Social media giants banning and deleting millions of Americans in order to silence

Editor’s note: This letter is by Stu Lindberg of Cavendish.

The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights consists of 30 rights and freedoms that belong to every human being. In 1948, after the horror of World War II and the nearly 17 million people exterminated by the National Socialist Party (Nazis), concerned world leaders were guided by the esteemed former First Lady, and human rights activist, Eleanor Roosevelt. They were determined to codify protections for individuals on a global level: “We stand today at the threshold of a great event both in the life of the United Nations and in the life of mankind. This declaration may well become the international Magna Carta for all men everywhere.”

Article 19 of the U.N. Declaration states, “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”

At this very moment social media giants Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google are banning and deleting millions of Americans from their platforms in order to silence any questions and concerns they have regarding the past and current activities of President-elect Joe Biden, as well as the lack of leadership of both the Democratic and Republican parties.  Regardless of one’s political affiliation, every constitutional, liberty-loving American should be horrified by these actions.

RELATED: Free speech under attack

These corporate, monopolistic, social media cartels are playing a terribly dangerous game in silencing legitimate political dissent. Our nation is founded on the principles of free speech and the ability to have a redress of grievances with our elected officials. The First Amendment of our own constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

The nature of human beings when forced into silence or forced into any kind of compliance is to breed resentment. This resentment has the awful tendency of erupting in violence. History is loaded with examples including our own American Revolution in 1776. I encourage my fellow Vermonters and Americans to call upon their elected officials to respect both the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights and to adhere to the Constitution of the United States.

Sincerely,
Stu Lindberg

  1. Xi wiz, I wonder what happened?

“Something is happening here but you don’t know what it is, do you Mr. Jones?”

  2. “The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

“If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”

    ― Malcolm X

    • People allow their thoughts to be controlled by the press and the media. Years ago, checking the accuracy of the press, radio, and TV wasn’t available to the general masses as it is today. It’s not easy to discern facts from fiction, but persistence can be rewarding. Thing is, the masses are lazy and would rather believe what is convenient for them. Truth itself is not so important.

BTW, private owned social media companies are not required to provide freedom of speech and can ban any content they deem inappropriate.

      • Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Google and YouTube are inextricably tangled up in the Democratic Party. Zuckerberg has given huge sums of money to Joe Biden’s campaign. This collusion of government and big tech is no different than the collusion of the Nazi Party and German industrial giants in the Second World War. One of the constitutional prerogatives of our government is to defend liberty. When does that start happening ?

      • Comrade SR,

Xi wiz! Social Media Companies are privately oened but government controlled. Just not by the government most would assume.

“Something is happening here but you don’t know what it is do you Mr. Jones?”

  3. It’s past time to break these power crazed companies up into little companies that don’t have the power to control. It was done with Exxon, ATT and many others. A link:(and there’s other links). Here is a promising article:
Congress Reveals Plans to Break Up Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and Google
    https://observer.com/2020/10/house-democrat-antitrust-amazon-facebook-google-breakup/

This could have happened if Trump was still in office. However Govt breaks ups don’t always produce the intent designed for. That’s how shortsighted Govt is.

  4. I just joined CloutHub – Facebook alternative – the #walkaway guy – Brandon – and his associates just got kicked off of facebook because the testimonials are from people who have left the democrat party. . Absolutely unbelievable – I’ve always found facebook to be a left wing virtue signaling hell hole anyway.

  5. Since when do conservatives equate speech suppressed by government with the action of a private sector entity. Our right to free speech does not include a government imposed obligation from private entities to provide a platform for that speech. Such notions are more in line with socialism than American conservatism.

    • Twitter and Facebook are private companies and should be able to do whatever they want? I sure wish that applied to all the restaurants and small businesses that have been closed by due to government imposed Covid restrictions.

  6. I clicked on a link on the Lockdown Sceptics website that was a video on Ivermectin, used to treat Covid-19. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXV42xkk8cM As you can see, the video is banned, no doubt because it contains “misinformation” contrary to what Big Doctor is telling us. Big Doctor, it turns out, is even more insidious than Big Brother because now everything is justified as “keeping us safe.” We wouldn’t want misinformation harming people now, would we? Big Doctor will tell us what to think.

Have we really come to this?

Here’s the real story on Ivermectin, but be careful: as Jay says, the thought police may be after us all soon. https://covid19criticalcare.com/

A year ago I don’t think any of us would’ve believed that we’d sink so very low.

  7. Be careful, Mr. Lindberg.

Vermont’s US Attorney, Christina Nolan, and VT Attorney General, T. J. Donovan, are investigating comments similar to yours in order to “…conduct a thorough criminal investigation and prosecute anyone… for inciting and carrying out” any “brazen criminal insurrection” to which those comments may be associated.

But rest assured, Attorney Nolan has allowed that, “As always, our office would need to carefully consider any evidence assembled by law enforcement before initiating a prosecution. “

You know, ‘evidence’. Like saying: “Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google are banning and deleting millions of Americans from their platforms in order to silence any questions and concerns they have regarding the past and current activities of President-elect Joe Biden, as well as the lack of leadership of both the Democratic and Republican parties.”

…followed by the implicit threat that:

“The nature of human beings when forced into silence or forced into any kind of compliance is to breed resentment. This resentment has the awful tendency of erupting in violence.”

Be careful, Mr. Lindberg. I’m just sayin’.

    • I suppose being a pacifist and simply pointing out a historical fact doesn’t make me immune from prosecution. I guess this is what tyranny looks like.

      • Indeed, ‘historical fact’ demonstrates what tyranny has always looked like. It’s why ‘historical fact’ has always been the enemy of tyranny. It’s why tyrants always revise ‘historical fact’. It’s why those who don’t learn ‘historical fact’ inevitably experience tyranny.

    • These people and their supporters don’t understand that it works 2 ways. Conservative media and social media platforms could do the same thing in the future.

      • “Conservative media and social media platforms could do the same thing in the future.”

So, let’s get busy doing it instead of whining about being victims of the left exercising their right to free association.
