I was pretty maddened to read the transcript of an interview with Liam Madden after his win in the Republican primary. The interview was with Vermont Public Radio. (See: “Liam Madden on his win in the Republican primary for U.S. House“)
I’m of the opinion that anyone who starts his political career with chicanery and manipulation is not worthy of the office he seeks. It appears that Liam entered the Republican primary to be a spoiler. He started his bid for U.S. Congress as an independent. He may have gotten 35% of the vote, but his two opponents, Ericka Redic and Anya Tynio, who had very similar beliefs and values in line with the Republican Party, received 50% of the Republican primary votes combined.
Liam had hoped to step out of the Republican slate and run as an independent, leaving a hole in the Republican slate on this very important U.S. congressional seat. He, however, discovered that the law states he has 10 days to withdraw and the Republican Party can nominate a replacement. He says he does not want to run in a three-way race. However Liam also never acquired and filled out the paperwork to shift over as an independent, which begs the question of whether or not he ever intended to do so. So having no recourse, has decided to retain the Republican nomination.
Liam may be too young to remember our U.S. Senator Jim Jeffords. He was a RINO in the true sense of the word, before the term “RINO” was ever coined. He voted with the Democrats on everything, at a time when it was not so dangerous to do so. Vermonters sent him to Washington over and over again. Then came the ultimate betrayal: The Democrats were one person short of having control of the Senate, and Jim Jeffords showed his true allegiance and changed parties so that the Democrats could have control of the Senate. This was not taken lightly by Vermonters and it ended Jim Jeffords’ Political career.
We are in a day where honesty and Integrity are the most important values we want to see in our elected officials, and especially in those who would represent the Republican Party. We want someone to represent us and fight for us. Liam has some great ideas, but in my opinion, Liam Madden has already missed the mark and has failed to gain my trust.
Ericka Redic has decided to run as a Libertarian. The Libertarian Party had already endorsed her. Now let’s see if Liam Madden is a person of his word and will not run in a three-way race.

Liam claims not to be a politician, yet he acted just like a sleazy politician. People are sick of it. Liam, do the honorable thing and withdraw from the race as a Republican! You have stated that you are an Independent, not a Republican or a Democrat. If you are elected to Congress, you said you don’t plan to caucus with the Republicans. WHY did you run as one? Were you deliberately trying to monkey-wrench our primary? We Republicans will not vote for you. Perhaps Independents will, but you didn’t run honestly as an Independent, did you? Instead, you RUINED the chances for our two Vermont GOP female candidates to run against each other, and for one of them to go to Washington as Vermont’s first female Congressperson. You, sir, a young white man, knocked two WOMEN out of the race. And one of them was a minority female. For shame! You are a sneaky, treacherous, self-serving politician. Your youth does not excuse you. You are old enough under the U.S. Constitution to run for Congress, so you shall be held to a high standard as an adult. Take the heat because I am serving it to you. Do the honorable thing and withdraw from the race. Also, since you support abortion through the sixth month, you are not faithful to the VT GOP Party Platform, which is pro-life. You remind me of the novel “The Manchurian Candidate”. You, sir, are a Manchurian candidate. Do the honorable thing and withdraw from this race NOW. Let the VT GOP nominate Erica Reddick, the second-place finisher. I plan to cast my November vote for the second-place Republican finisher, Erica Reddick. I urge all my fellow Vermont Republicans to do likewise. You got your political career in Vermont off to a terrible start. Do you not understand that you now have a cloud hanging over your head that will not go away for years??

Interesting clip about voting chicanery….it’s amazing how perspectives have changed. Somebody is lying….then or now which is it?
Good point and an accurate commentary. I can feel an urge coming on to vote Libertarian in the upcoming midterms. The republicans should be ashamed of what they have allowed. An independent is supposed to be an independent and not on a republican ballot. More election BS from the leaders of the party.
We don’t “allow it”. Anyone can file a Republican candidate petition.
He will not be supported by the republicans even though he’ll have a R beside his name.

I agree, but on the republican ballot Madden was listed as an independent. I received 3 ballots, R, D and progressive. Traditionally, independent candidates were not included in the primary because Independent is not a political party. Something stinks here and no republican should consider Madden as our representative because he stated publicly that he is not a Republican. He should withdraw from the party which is the honest thing to do.
