Smith: It’s all so ‘progressive’

By Todd Smith | The Caledonian Record

Bernie Sanders spent the last couple weeks (sort of) apologizing for multiple reports of mistreatment, harassment and abuse of women on his 2016 Presidential campaign. We say “sort of” because the accused perpetrators remain close to Sanders, and his initial response to the reports was to be annoyed.

“I was a little busy running around the country,” he offered in (albeit feeble) defense.

Once his handlers told him how tone-deaf he sounded, apologizing to “any woman who feels like she was not treated appropriately,” Sanders tried to spin his utter lack of accountability and principle into political advantage.

“Clearly we need a cultural revolution in this country to change workplace attitudes and behavior,” he said last week. “I intend in every way to be actively involved in that process.”

This is hardly the first time we’ve seen Comrade Sanders bending his “progressive” principles to his political needs:

• According to Federal Election Commission records, Bernie Sanders spent around $300,000 on posh private jets over nine days this past October. According to the Daily Caller, he paid the bill on the same day he declared climate change a “planetary crisis.”

• Sanders spent over $5 million on private luxury jets during his 2016 Presidential campaign. … During that time Sanders was making $3,365 a week as a Senator (missing 104 out of 117 floor votes).

• Two years ago Bernie and Jane Sanders bought a $600,000 summer home on Lake Champlain, increasing their number of homes to three.

• Jane Sanders, notoriously, got rich running Burlington College into the ground and – in true capitalist fashion – by monetizing her husband’s faux “socialism.”

• In 2015 Sanders introduced legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15/hour. At the time he was paying campaign workers $10.10/hour (the minimum Sanders could legally pay and remain in compliance with an Obama Executive Order on contracted federal employees) and interns $12/hour.

• Twin pillars of his platform – a carbon tax and universal health care – both failed in his “home” state. Not that he would know … considering he rarely makes time to visit.

As we’ve repeatedly said, the only thing “socialist” about Sanders is the way he’s raking in millions for not working.

  1. Now THAT is funny. Sanders uses abusive of women in his own affairs to call on the rest of us to change our attitudes and behavior in the workplace. This guy is one of the slickest snakes to ever slither. Like any devout left-wing moonbat, his primary objective is to remove consequence from behavior. So when the bad behavior falls squarely on him, he blames everyone but himself. Truly embarrassing that Vermonters love this nut.

  2. What’s sad is partisan politics! Just because you label yourself the same as any given politician, you defend her/him even though they steal from you. It is sheer insanity. Everyone of them is out for themselves. They are ALL stealing from Americans. EVERY congress person is taking a paycheck for doing nothing. They are all a bunch of lying political parrots.

The saddest thing is that Americans relentlessly bash each other because of a party label. Keeping us divided is the game. I hate politics. I go to the polls to vote on issues only.

Why, why, why do people attach themselves to political cults?

    • I agree politicians are all out for themselves, and we have allowed it by letting them make being a politician a profession both state and federal level. Term limits is the only answer to stop them.
We also need to get civics and social studies back into the schools. When close to 50% of the population think socialism is the answer we have a serious problem. They need to wake up and see what is happening in Europe! The middle class is revolting and saying enough is a enough. We have too many fools who think we should follow in their footsteps! That goes against who I am as an American regardless of party.

  3. If Bernie tried to do anything rational that would benefit the taxpayers or the nation he would be shunned and ostracized by the party. He would be out of a job. It’s like a Union shop: If you do the job too well, it reflects badly on the rest of the professional loiterers. Besides: Who else do the Democrats have to run? Look at who they ran for President!

  4. Todd, Great article on Carpet Bagger Sanders, what really amazes me is with all his baggage
and all his non-achievements as Senator …………… How does he keep getting re-elected ??

So as he travels the Country promoting his 2020 bid, yeah, yeah he hasn’t come right out and
stated that …………. but we all know his arrogance, he’s jumping in ( again) !!

What’s he doing for Vermont other than taking a paycheck, for service not rendered.

  5. Excellent report. How and why do Vermonters keep electing a man who doesn’t do his job or accomplish anything. I think people want to believe Bernie is a noble man looking out for the little guy, unfortunately Bernie is a hypocritical snake oil salesman who is laughing at his minions. 3 homes and millions of dollars, almost never doing the job he was elected to do. Great work if you can get it.

    • Not bad for a guy kicked out of a hippy commune in the 70’s for not wanting to work. What’s sad is all the flatlanders who believe this charlatan.
