Firefighters and other workers involved in the rescue and recovery efforts suffer from breathing difficulties, sinusitis, pneumonia, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. These symptoms have exacerbated into COPD/ emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, and lung scarring in one-fifth cases.
