Governor vetoes noncitizen voting, signs Dr. Dynasaur-like coverage for illegals

Gov. Phil Scott announced Tuesday he has vetoed two bills that would have let noncitizen residents of Montpelier and Winooski vote in local elections. However, he signed H.430, which will  create a program similar to Dr. Dynasaur so undocumented immigrant children and pregnant woman can obtain health insurance coverage.

The governor issued the following statements for vetoing noncitizen voting bills H.177 and H.227:

“This is an important policy discussion that deserves further consideration and debate. Allowing a highly variable town-by-town approach to municipal voting creates inconsistency in election policy, as well as separate and unequal classes of residents potentially eligible to vote on local issues. I believe it is the role of the Legislature to establish clarity and consistency on this matter. This should include defining how municipalities determine which legal residents may vote on local issues, as well as specifying the local matters they may vote on. Returning these bills provides the opportunity to do this important work.

“For these reasons I am returning this legislation without my signature pursuant to Chapter II, Section 11 of the Vermont Constitution. I understand these charter changes are well-intentioned, but I ask the Legislature to revisit the issue of non-citizen voting in a more comprehensive manner and develop a statewide policy or a uniform template and process for those municipalities wishing to grant the right of voting in local elections to all legal residents.”

On June 1, Scott returned without signature and vetoed bills of the following titles:

  1. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to let immigrants who have been permitted to stay in the United States on humanitarian grounds apply to become permanent residents if they entered the country illegally, siding with President Joe Biden’s administration.

The justices, acting in an appeal by a married couple from El Salvador who were granted so-called Temporary Protected Status, unanimously upheld a lower court ruling that barred their applications for permanent residency, also known as a green card, because of their unlawful entry.

The case could affect thousands of immigrants, many of whom have lived in the United States for years. Biden, who has sought to reverse many of his Republican predecessor Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies, had opposed the immigrants in this case, placing the president at odds with immigration advocacy groups and some of his fellow Democrats.

A federal law called the Immigration and Nationality Act generally requires that people seeking to become permanent residents have been “inspected and admitted” into the United States. At issue in the case was whether a grant of Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which gives the recipient “lawful status,” satisfies those requirements.

Writing for the court, liberal Justice Elena Kagan said that “because a grant of TPS does not come with a ticket of admission, it does not eliminate the disqualifying effect of an unlawful entry.”

I looks like Vermont allowing illegals to vote in LOCAL elections may be unconstitutional/illegal, because these illegals are not allowed to even be in the US Government, until AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY INSPECTED AND ADMITTED by the US Government.

  2. Hey Governor,

I think it would be illegal to have illegals participate in VOTING, A SACRET CIVIC RIGHT.
Did not you, and legislators, take an oath to uphold the US and VT Constitution?

You mean, people just illegally walk across the border by the hundreds of thousands, FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, courtesy of “in-the-basement-Biden-idiocy”?

NO SANE NATION SHOULD ALLOW THIS

Some of the illegals are bussed to Vermont, announce they are an illegals/”refuges”, and just wait around to be put on government support programs, including Social Security, to which they never contributed a dime?

Condos mails them ballots so they can vote, as part of “universal” voting?

THIS HAPPENS ONLY IN THE NUT-CASE AREAS OF AMERICA, WHERE DEM/PROG/RINO FOLKS TALK WITH FORKED TONGUE

  3. These clowns in Montpelier & Winooski want ” Non Citizens ” to vote are you kidding me,
if they are living in the US-VT why aren’t they citizens ???

Sounds like they want just the benefits, I would think they are already getting more than
they deserve “Voting ” is a privilege for its citizens, so if you want to vote become a legal
    resident.

Let’s see what clowns in these cities are pushing this nonsense.
