Gallup poll finds majority now oppose impeaching and removing Trump from office

President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has inched up six percentage points since House Democrats opened an impeachment inquiry against him, according to a Gallup poll published Wednesday.

The president’s job approval rating is now at 45%, while Americans remain divided over whether he should be impeached, Gallup’s poll found. Currently, 46% support impeachment and removal, down six points from when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the inquiry, the poll found.

More than 50% oppose impeachment and removal, an increase of five percentage points, according to the poll.

The poll, which was conducted between Dec. 2-15, shows political independents are shifting on the issue — they supported impeachment in October polls by roughly 55%, Gallup noted. Support for impeachment and removal is now down below 50% among independents, the poll found.

“The impeachment process has been a divisive one for the country, carrying risks for both political parties,” Gallup analyst Justin McCarthy noted in a statement announcing the numbers. He added that Congress’ approval numbers have increased, too.

Roughly 27% of voter approve of the job Congress is doing, which is up from 18% in early September, according to the Gallup poll. Gallup surveyed 1,025 adults and the poll contains a ±4 percentage points margin of error at the 95% confidence level.

He added: “As of now, it appears to be helping both Trump and Congress. While neither enjoys stellar approval ratings, they have both improved in their standing since the beginning of the impeachment process.”

Gallup’s polling comes one day after internal polling by the Trump campaign on Tuesday warning Democrats in pro-Trump districts to avoid supporting impeachment or risk losing re-election.

Trump’s poll surveyed 900 likely voters in the 30 congressional districts that the president won in 2016 but are currently occupied by Democrats.

Voters in those districts oppose impeachment by 10 percentage points, 53-43, and would support a new candidate over the Democratic incumbent by 11 points, 47-36, according to the Trump campaign’s internal polling.

  1. The Dems could care less about polls. If Queen Pelosi were Speaker, she would have started impeachment proceedings the day after President Trump took office. Sadly these partisans still are smarting over the results of the 2016 election. Now they’re trying to poison the well before the 2020 election for they rightly fear Trump will win again by a much greater margin. Go Donald!!!!

  2. Good news which means the public info tide is turning against the lying fake not news media..
They can only spew their lie so long before they get caught in it…Thanks to algore for
his internet where the truth can’t be hidden..to the bane of the leftist fascist….

  3. We the people are waking up to the scam Impeachment !!

So we have had Democrats screaming impeachment since the inauguration of the President, it started with Russian Collusion, with $32M taxpayer dollars, and a team of twenty anti-Trump lawyers couldn’t find any way to hold the President accountable.

Now it’s Quid Pro Quo, with Ukrainian President, even though that leader stated there was no pressure or QPQ ….. So now it’s, contempt of Congress……. wow!!

Nah, this impeachment isn’t political, Nah just ask Congressmen Al Green or maybe Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, as stated ” Impeach The MF’r ” bitterness is all they have. These Democratic will Impeach, The President is going nowhere, and the house will get cleaned in November.

Let’s see, lying to the FISA Courts with fake Steele dossier paid for by the DNC and the Clinton foundation …. nothing bad there !!
