Dems seize on Roe v. Wade reports to call for court packing, federal abortion laws

Top Democrat lawmakers called for Congress to enact pro-abortion legislation as well as pack the Supreme Court after a Monday evening leak reportedly revealed that the Court will likely overturn Roe v. Wade.

Following a report from Politico that a majority of justices had reportedly voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, Democrats called for court packing and for the codification of abortion rights into federal law, including by abolishing the Senate filibuster if necessary. If the justices go through with overturning Roe v. Wade, states will be allowed to determine their own abortion limits.

“A stolen, illegitimate, and far-right Supreme Court majority appears set to destroy the right to abortion, an essential right which protects the health, safety, and freedom of millions of Americans,” Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey said. “There is no other recourse. We must expand the court.”

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders called for ending the Senate filibuster in order to ram through the codification of Roe v. Wade into federal law, meaning a ban on states limiting abortions throughout the first six months of pregnancy and strict limits on abortion restrictions throughout the entire duration of pregnancy.

“Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country NOW,” Sanders wrote. “And if there aren’t 60 votes in the Senate to do it, and there are not, we must end the filibuster to pass it with 50 votes.”

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also called for the codification of Roe into federal law.

“People elected Democrats precisely so we could lead in perilous moments like these- to codify Roe, hold corruption accountable, & have a President who uses his legal authority to break through Congressional gridlock on items from student debt to climate,” she said. “It’s high time we do it.”

  1. Hate to break the news to you Bernie but Joe Manchin has already gone on the record stating he will not vote to end the filibuster. Why don’t you be your usually obnoxious self and press him to change his vote. With any luck he might change his affiliation to the Republican Party.

  2. Well of course the commie burnie sandernista would want to have his side
have all the power, that’s how you can instill communism/socialism without
the serfs having a say in the matter. Why is this dud still being elected? What in
Hell has he ever done for Vermont? Bigger question what in hell is wrong with
political illiterate that keep voting for him? Until we get a educated voter base
I’m afraid we’re never going to be Vermont again. Just a suburb of commifornia.

  3. Sanders has 1 (one) kid that he NEVER supported in his life. He never acknowledges him. The only time he had Levi around is when he ran for president. So of course Sanders wants to keep abortion around. He is all for murdering babies.
I am against abortions and here is why when I was in the hospital with my firstborn (who was 2 months premature) the girl in the bed next to me just had her 4th abortion. She said it was no big deal. I asked her why wasn’t she on the pill or made sure the guy used a condom. She said she didn’t like taking a pill every day and she and her boyfriend didn’t like the feel of a condom. So it was easier just to have an abortion to just get rid of it..She was in college, her first abortion was at 16.. There was no health reason she just didn’t want to have a baby. I remember telling her “You need to get yourself Fixed”!!!
