Davos speaker calls for ‘a billion’ people to ‘stop eating meat’ to save planet

By Harold Hutchison

A speaker at the World Economic Forum (WEF) called for one “billion” people to “stop eating meat” Wednesday, saying it would have a “big impact” on the “current food system” and help reduce carbon emissions.

“If a billion people stop eating meat, I tell you, it has a big impact. Not only does it have a big impact on the current food system, but it will also inspire innovation of food systems,” Jim Hagemann Snabe, chairman of the Germany-based conglomerate Siemens AG, said during a panel called “Mobilizing for Climate.” The WEF’s conference in Davos, Switzerland, attended by many world leaders and top business executives, started Monday and runs through Friday.

A study by the Food and Agriculture Organization said that 14.5% of “greenhouse gas emissions” came from raising livestock. Two professors from Indiana University called for an increase in the use of insect protein for human and animal diets in an op-ed published by the WEF in February 2022.

The Netherlands announced it would seize 3,000 farms and shut them down to reduce nitrogen emissions by 50% by 2030 in November following months of protestsby Dutch farmers.

“That is a mission that we need to get on. I can inspire you to maybe look at an organization called Eat — easy to remember, Eat — who have all the facts on this and who have the policies necessary, the innovations necessary and the scale necessary in order to make food systems sustainable and healthy,” Snabe said.

Eat, a global nonprofit, describes itself as seeking “a fair and sustainable global food system for healthy people and planet” that would “transform our global food system through sound science, impatient disruption and novel partnerships,” according to its website.

“I predict that we will have proteins not coming from meat in the future, they will probably taste even better. So why are we trying to mimic meat if we can have a better taste? They will be zero carbon and much healthier than the kind of food that we eat today,” Snabe added.

  1. How many DAVOSs’ does it take to screw in a light bulb?
He’s as bad as Gore. How can anyone, in their right mind, take any of these fools seriously?

  2. My vote is to remove all globalist from the planet. They have the biggest carbon foot print of all inhabitants and their constant bloviating must put out more co2 than a jet airliner.. Elon can you build a bus spaceship for the occasion?

  3. Rather than getting us to eat crickets and pass on meat, why not rid the foods we are eating of
bio-engineered ingredients and remove the toxins that help feed cancer in our bodies? Feed the
cows grass, cut down on sugars. Encourage exercise. Stress reduction. Meditation. Back off on
    the constant fear porn.

Am I worried about CO2? No, I am worried about cancer.

  4. I just saw this article from BLOOMBERG….a very liberal outfit. :

“Fake Meat Was Supposed to Save the World. It Became Just Another Fad”

“Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods wanted to upend the world’s $1 trillion meat industry. But plant-based meat is turning out to be a flop.”

  5. Read an interesting thing by MIT atmospheric scientist Richard Lindzen the other day. He said that the earth’s surface cools primarily by evaporation, not by radiation. When we think of it, it makes sense: water vapor carries heat from the surface up into the atmosphere where, upon condensing, heat is released. I’ve always thought that once the heat gets to the tropopause, where it’s about -65C, do we really even care if anything radiates or not? It’s plenty cold enough already.

If we look at diagrams of balloon data, called skew-T diagrams, what’s remarkable is that there’s a very consistent decrease of temperature with elevation that follows parallel to lapse rate functions plotted on the diagrams. We see zero evidence of CO2 warming in these diagrams, if we compare pre-1980 diagrams with 2022 diagrams. We don’t even see any additional atmospheric heating dependent on relative humidity whereas we’d expect to see more heating with more water vapor; after all, water vapor absorbs and emits more of the IR spectrum than CO2 does.

The whole CO2 thing is silly. Sound and fury, a tale told by idiots who believe that “narratives,” not real facts, are what matter. Then they go out and hunt for “data” to support their narrative.

But right, let’s stop eating meat. That’s cool down the -65C tropopause so we don’t burn the planet. Brilliant.
