Court packing: Democrats introduce bill that would add four justices to the U.S. Supreme Court

By Mary Margaret Olohan

Democrats are planning to introduce legislation Thursday that would expand the size of the Supreme Court, sources familiar with the measure told The Intercept.

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, subcommittee Chair Hank Johnson, and Democratic New York Rep. Mondaire Jones are leading the bill in the House, the Intercept reported, and Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey is leading the bill in the Senate.

The bill aims to add four seats to the Supreme Court, according to the publication. Republicans currently hold six seats on the court while Democrats hold only three. During the contentious confirmation process of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Democrats threatened that “nothing is off the table” if Republicans confirmed Barrett.

Republicans nevertheless confirmed Barrett in October and Democrats took control of the Senate and presidency.

Biden refused to address whether he would pack the court during the 2020 presidential election, insisting that he would not provide such an answer until at least 180 days into his presidency and after he had received a recommendation from a bipartisan commission on changing the Supreme Court.

“If elected, what I will do is I’ll put together a national commission – a bipartisan commission … and I will ask them to, over 180 days, come back to me with recommendations as to how to reform the court system … it’s not about court packing,” he said in October.

He said: “There’s a number of alternatives that go well beyond court packing.”

Biden established the creation of a commission to study the impact of expanding the Supreme Court on April 9.

Judicial Crisis Network (JCN) launched a campaign Thursday opposing Democratic court packing efforts and reminding Americans that Biden himself opposed the move for decades. The campaign includes an ad titled “Terrible Mistake” that will air nationally.

GOP Enthusiastic Over Nadler’s SCOTUS Packing Bill
Posted by mark wauck at 1:47 PM
    excerpted:
“Earlier on the first post today I linked to Thomas Lifson explaining why Nadler’s surprise move is a sign of Dem desperation–they see continuing and even increasing disasters for the Zhou Baiden regime…The Democratic party is dying. That may be hard to believe since Democrats control both houses of Congress and won the last presidential election with a record 81 million votes.”

  2. Yes, I watched Jerry Nadler waddle out with his gaggle of fools, and then have the
audacity to state that it was the Trump Administration that packed the courts, when
this fool states wants to add ” four ” liberal to the SCOTUS, so they ” DemocRATs ”
will have control of our justice system………………….you can’t make this ” S ” up !!!

If Queen Nancy isn’t willing to push this boondoggle, she knows she doesn’t have
the votes ” backing “, wake up people they’ll destroy our country if we let them !!

    • Have also heard she doesn’t have the votes period and the 180-day “Commission” is just a plan to make it go away – while sending a message to the ‘conservative’ justices following the “Reap the Whirlwind” threat issued by Schumer that they tend to their knitting.

  3. More bad news for DmocratMarxist Party and possible explanation for mission to pack SCOTUS and replace US voters with steady stream of needy compliant illegals as they continue to lose power:
BAD NEWS FOR PELSOI: Dem House Vote Margin Falls To Only Two Votes

      • Stardust,

Biden’s anomynous handlers have set up a Commission “to study expanding SCOTUS”

They prepped Biden to announce it in a presidential manner.

        • The Democrats House vote margin has fallen to only two votes.
This came after Rep Julia Letlow (R-LA) was sworn in.

          Fox News reported:

House Democrats are barely holding onto their majority, with Rep.-elect Julia Letlow, R-La., set to be sworn in Wednesday morning.

Letlow will be joining the House in the seat originally won by her husband, Luke Letlow, who died in September from COVID-19 before he was supposed to be sworn in. Julia Letlow won a special election in March.

This gives Republicans 212 seats in the House, catching up to Democrats’ 218. Since tie votes fail in the House, that means Democrats cannot lose more than two votes from their party to pass legislation if the GOP fully opposes them.

That slim margin of error could prevent Democrats from passing more progressive bills that moderates in their party may not support.

The Democrats now can not afford to lose more than two votes if they want to pass any legislation.

One death of a House Democrat replaced by a Republican would become REALLY interesting.

Pelosi must be sweating big time.
She will not be able to pass diddly-squat.

        • Thanks Willem 😀 Difficult to keep up with lol. Ya’d think of all ppl the Communist Party running the country could keep track of what is allowed to emerge for a floor vote – iow that Nadler got that far a bit strange.

This is a third term for Hussein imho. To get the support of the radical wing – Bernie who brought in Antifa, and Obamas long-withheld support – Biden had to agree to all this as well as Cackling-Kamala intallation as POTUS. Wouldn’t be surprised if Michelle make veep.
